You should make the colours nicer, but not too bright!

First thing to do: Oceania

It's funny how Indonesia lost to India and Israel, Tuvalu lost to Timor-Leste, and Mauritius to Micronesia.

Botswana? No. Bahamas? No. Barbados? No. Bhutan? No. Brunei? No. Benin? No. Belize? No. Burundi? No. Congratulations Burkina Faso. Of all the obscure B-countries you are the most obscure. And you're also by far the most obscure country on this list of most obscure countries by letter. There's something to use on your tourism marketing campaign!

They may consider be called again Upper Volta, to see if somebody still remembers them...
Jan 30th, 2013 at 12:20 GMT
I know that all the "I" countries are fairly well known, but Indonesia surprises me as the least guessed.
Jan 30th, 2013 at 12:40 GMT
I did pretty well, simply by guessing the countries I almost always forget about on the Countries of the World quiz. :) However, I forget Solomon Islands way more often than I forget Sao Tome and Principe.
Jan 30th, 2013 at 15:40 GMT
Somehow it doesn't feel right that Kyrgyzstan isn't on the list...
Jan 30th, 2013 at 15:51 GMT
@Kloddz - I'm thinking that it is a good thing that Kyrgyzstan isn't on this list
Jan 30th, 2013 at 15:56 GMT
HOW IS INDONESIA THERE?!?! Madness.... great quiz though
Jan 30th, 2013 at 16:22 GMT
and still, Indonesia was only guessed ~50% of the time on this list
Jan 30th, 2013 at 16:39 GMT
Very surprised at Indonesia
Jan 30th, 2013 at 17:33 GMT
Waiting for the quiz of Obscure Country per Obscure Country per Letter Quiz ...
Jan 30th, 2013 at 18:17 GMT
Sporcle should offer some lessons on Africa and Oceania countries I'm afraid... Of course, sponsored by the government of Burkina Faso.
Jan 30th, 2013 at 18:21 GMT
Well, for the moment, it offers the link to the "countries of Africa" quiz, hope that will work for now...
Jan 30th, 2013 at 20:04 GMT
Surprised Uganda is lesser known than Uzbekistan, given its relatively high profile history
Jan 30th, 2013 at 23:01 GMT
The only reason I ever remember Burkina Faso is Ouagadougou.
Jan 30th, 2013 at 23:47 GMT
Very surprised with Burkina Faso being more obscure than Burundi or Barbados. Maybe many people think that this is a made up country?
Jan 31st, 2013 at 01:48 GMT
Burkina Faso? Disputed Zone? Who called all these weird places?
Jan 31st, 2013 at 02:22 GMT
Good quiz. Maybe add percentage guessed.
Jan 31st, 2013 at 08:52 GMT
@sixtytwobobs I thought about it but then thought they will change all the time so didnt. Non of the answers were that close so hopefully they wont change.
Jan 31st, 2013 at 14:37 GMT
I never got why Burkina Faso is so obscure. Mauritania, too, even though it's not on here. I mean, they're not in an obscure place, and they're not small. You look at western Africa and they're just right there.
Jan 31st, 2013 at 14:38 GMT
What about Palestine or South Sudan?
Jan 31st, 2013 at 14:39 GMT
Also its maybe because of the spellings
Jan 31st, 2013 at 16:49 GMT
As a person doing this quiz from a computer with a broken "u" key, so that I have to c/p it each time... man this quiz had an awful lot of u's.

I will never get Burkina Faso - but then again, after it renamed itself that from Upper Volta my Geography teacher made two weeks out of normal program and let us find out everything we could about it. Which somewhat skews my perception. No wonders about Uzbekistan, though, many countries do not only have their own merits but also come in sets - when you guess Iran you will guess Iraq next more often than not. Or play the Scandinavians in a row and so on. And UzbekiSTAN probably is in some kind of set for some people here, though I'm not sure which one that could be... (Although Uganda for me also always belonged to the Uganda-Rwanda-Burundi triumvirate)
Jan 31st, 2013 at 18:27 GMT
For those surprised by Indonesia: it is not so surprising if you consider that all other "I" countries are very well-known and/or easy to remember. Italy and India are probably in the Top 15 countries everybody knows, Ireland and Iceland are easy to remember in tandem, and Iran, Iraq and Israel are all the time in the news. Indonesia, despite its large size, population and importance, is more "obscure" than any of them for the average American/European (Sprocle's majority users).

Classic sporcleitis: I remember UK and forget Uganda. Wait, do I have that right?
Feb 1st, 2013 at 21:09 GMT
Was surprised by Uganda, especially after Hermain Cain's infamous "U-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan" comment. Are most sporclers too young to remember Idi Amin?
Feb 2nd, 2013 at 05:52 GMT
Didn't get H,I,N. Going to play again.
Feb 2nd, 2013 at 14:44 GMT
@Ulkomaalainen it's actually a quatrumvirate(?) for me - Uganda-Rwanda-Burundi-*Malawi*
Feb 3rd, 2013 at 11:56 GMT
This is getting very Rumsfeldian for all you epistemologists out there (and if you can't be found on Sporcle, are you indeed worth finding?): Known unknowns, unknown knowns, and. in this case all the ones we missed are unknown unknowns.

There should be a quiz with the least guessed ones here. It would be: "The most obscure countries on the Obscure country per letter quiz"
Feb 8th, 2013 at 08:28 GMT
Well I got the most obscure from the most obscure ... I guess that counts for something. Or is that be the least obscure one!?
Feb 8th, 2013 at 10:34 GMT
Great quiz. Next up: "The 5 least guessed countries in the least guessed countries quiz."
