The numbers have obviously little to do with real IQ. I very much Einstein would be of below-average intelligence in Boston... On the other side of the scale, IQ 3 is obviously impossible. It's 6.5σ less than normal, which statistically means 0.16 persons worldwide are that low.

Great quiz. I don't think Harrisburg Metro has more than 1 million people though. PS-Is intelligence somehow linked to Political affiliation? All the smartest cities seem Democratic and all the dumb ones Republican. Interesting.

@manitopiaaa-there is a definite trend between level of education and political affiliation-people who went to college tend to think more liberally

The source isn't claiming that these are the average IQs of the people in those cities. They came up with their own formula that uses a variety of factors, and the average score is around 100. But it's not IQ, so it's not unusual to see so many areas where the average is so far from 100.

The biggest factors appear to be proximity of prominent universities (#1, #3, #6) or job markets that skew toward knowledge (#2, #8). Educated people tend to live and work where they can earn the most for their skills.

@tulo-according to recent gallup and pew polls, liberal ideas like gay marriage, pregnancy out of wedlock, single-payer healthcare, and banning the death penalty were supported more by people who graduated or went to some college than people who never went to college
