Nice one - nominated. If anything, I'd add even more.

Got all of them by guessing.....Add a bunch more so its more of a challenge
May 18th, 2010 at 09:49 GMT
I'm not sure if adding more would help -- I still found it faster to type "red, backspace if necessary, white" than to read the name of the wine, think about the color of the wine, then type in that color.

kostell: yeah, that seems like a fun thing to do.

Burgundy can be either red (pinot noir) or white (chardonnay) so you may want to rethink that one. By the way, there's also Garnacha Blanc, and a lot of Garnacha is made into rosado and not red wine. Cheers!

I was so happy when Agiorghitiko came up as the last one...I've got an Greek Agiorghitiko rosé in my fridge right now! I'm saving it for the spring...mmmmmm.

Rioja is simply a region in Spain. Although largely known for its tempranillo, it also makes rose and white wine. Also, wine 101, white wine can be made from any grape, white or red (a lot of Champagne is made from Pinot Noir). Maybe you can clarify it by simply adding 'grapes traditionally made into' white or red wine.

Too easy to guess here. Suggest making it a minefield/drop-dead quiz to make it more challenging!

This is a typing challenge.

I'm not sure if Calvin's still around or not, but this quiz would work well with the wrong answers option (doesn't need to be a minefield, just making it so you can only guess red or white but not both to each question).

1 minute? There's absolutely no reason whatsoever to limit the time ...
Feb 9th, 2013 at 22:55 GMT
I'm guessing this quiz is meant for hardcore oenophiles only. I can't imagine any other reason for a one minute time limit...
Feb 9th, 2013 at 22:59 GMT
Great idea for a quiz. your ratings may be low because the timing is very tight for anyone who is not an aficionado. Congrats on the publish

you mixed one thing up in there. Rioja is a region, not a grape variety, while all of the others (well at least the ones I know) are grape varieties. The most typically used variety in La Rioja is Tempranillo, up to the point that there are few others used, so basically if you buy wine from La Rioja, you most likely will get Tempranillo. Still, not the same thing.

I raise a glass to you on your publish! What kind, you ask? It's um... sparkling grape juice. I'm 14.

I didn't notice the time limit, so I thought there would be no harm in my looking up while my wife told me something. Then suddenly, I didn't have enough time left to read the last 7 or 8 wines. The lesson here... don't listen to your family.

Gotta agree with the time issue. I don't even think most sommeliers would be able to do this.

Rioja is usually red, but there is such a thing as White Rioja.

Valpolicella is also a region. Again mostly producing red wines, but not exclusively.

I remembered the colors of all the I have had, except the ones I have had too much of. (Wonder why that is?)There are a lot left to explore.
May 26th, 2013 at 14:59 GMT
Nice idea, but I'll add my voice to the people who have pointed out that while these are usually right, you do get white Rioja, etc., Still, works in the most part.
