That's because "District of Colombia" is like the "state" that it's located in (consisting of the city Washington only), so it's like the full address, like "Los Angeles, California". It's nothing like Bandar Seri Begawan or Abu Dhabi. You don't see it being called "Abu, Dhabi". In fact, no other capital in the world has a comma in the name. Hence why Sporcle quizzes that take the "D.C." part of the name into account are just silly. |
