| Several of these are already plurals which don't have a singular, e.g. (pair of) scissors, (pair of) pants. Many are singular without a plural form, as opposed to having a plural which is the same as the singular, e.g. gold, sand, bread. This is because you can't have "a gold", "a sand" or "a bread", so to pluralise them would be nonsense. And "meat" certainly has a plural: beef, pork and mutton are all meats. |
