I'm aware that there is definite room for interpretation over some of the boundaries of the Atlantic - does the Gulf of Mexico count for instance? I've tried to stick to the convention listed in the notes for the sake of simplicity, but if people feel strongly I should change anything I'll take it on board.

Per Sporcle convention, you should accept DRC. As far as your definition is concerned, it becomes pretty clear when you try entering countries in the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean area, where you set the boundary (and it is a reasonable one. your definition in the instructions is a little weak. After all, there is the Gulf of Guinea which should eliminate Nigeria and Cameroon, but the problem is that there is no obvious boundary for the Gulf of Guinea, like there is for the Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico (Leeward/Windward Islands/Bahamas). I think there is a strong argument for including Norway, either because there really isn't a definition point which separates its coastal waters from the Atlantic (or if you feel that there is) because Bouvet Island is in the South Atlantic.

I've added Norway and DRC. I know what you mean about the definition, I'll try and come up with better wording - it's sort of 'common sense' rules but quite hard to easily define, like you say because of vague areas like the Gulf of Guinea. I'll give it some thought and try and find a better one. Thanks for the feedback.

Mexico does touch the Atlantic and not just the gulf of Mexico-Caribbean, the town of Puerto Progreso is supposed to touch the Atlantic as it is the boundary between all 3.

Cuba is also not only in the Caribbean, I think you should just include the Caribbean and Gulf, Mediterranean sea and Northern Sea to avoid confusion

You should probably include the Netherlands (Netherlands Antilles: Saba and St. Eustatius are municipalities of the Netherlands, (Southern) Saint Martin is a country within the kingdom) and Chile (touches the Atlantic south of Argentina. Nice quiz by the way.

@Sjoerd: The Netherlands Antilles are not considered in the Atlantic for this quiz, but the Caribbean Sea. Chile I feel only borders the Pacific and Southern Oceans, although without a clear boundary between oceans I accept this is really a judgement call.

I don't understand the omissions of Cuba and Jamaica from this quiz, surely they border as much on the Atlantic as the other Caribbean islands? Also you need to accept Dem Rep Congo and Rep Congo because I tried the first and when it didn't work I assumed I was wrong.

Please fix the alphabetization of Uruguay and USA. Right now you have it as UK, Uruguay, and then USA, and I was a bit confused by the misordering.

you could check the IHO website for the exact definitions of the ocean limits. for example, im pretty sure chile borders the atlantic as it is defined by the iho (i'm just way too tired to look it up right now). would be good to cross ref. also the map you are using as a source is really poorly made (n. ireland is a different color from the rest of the uk, san marino, liechtenstein, kosovo, sao tome and principe, and vatican city are missing, tajikistan is unlabeled, there are quite a few non-countries listed and the coloring scheme is very poorly done) may want to consider something else.

Look at a map, the Chilean part of Tierra Del Fuego touches the Atlantic.
