South Yemen and PDR Yemen are (were) the same nation. "North Yemen" was the Yemen Arab Republic. You should include "North Yemen" as an answer, as that was the colloquial name for the country at the time (much like we still use Ivory Coast instead of Cote D'Ivoire, and East Timor for Timor Leste, etc.)

@tomalak55: Fixed. I tried to accept as many right answers as possible, and wound up getting myself crossed up. This is probably the most obscure of the country changes since 1985, so hopefully it didn't mess things up through the first 20 plays.

Decent quiz. Eastern Europe certainly takes less time to type out... and yeah it seems many people didn't know about North/South Yemen... I had an atlas when I was a kid dating from about 1990 showing North and South Yemen. I'd memorise lots of names of countries and where they were on the map, but I didn't actually realise at that time that countries come into existence, dissolve, merge and change their borders.

You should probably accept DDR and St Vincent, too.

I will add the fixes that have been recommended. They are valid. These seem like "duh" things that should have been done, but they were not. Re Taiwan, Nationmaster apparently doesn't recognize them. This was not an issue unique to Taiwan. I tried to squeeze the others near where they belonged but Taiwan just slipped through the cracks.
