I'd have thought that the USA would have been higher on the list. I know I've thought about moving there occasionally.

I guess all those people threatening to move to Canada if Bush got reelected didn't actually mean it.

Wow, bonus answer Hong Kong gets into 7th place...Being in Vancouver, made the quiz rather easy for me: guessed loads of Asian countries with a healthy dose of East European countries.

Way way way too long a time limit. I did forget romania for whatever reason, but I had time to list every country in the Americas, Asia, and most of africa before time ran out. Consider shortening the quiz time.

Wow, holy crap, I am at work, and I came across the name of a Vietnamese doctor in Canada, and- swear to god, this happened not two minutes ago- I thought to myself, "Hmm, I wonder how many people of Asian descent live in Canada."

Yes, being a Canadian definitely helps with this one. I simply went through all of my school friends from growing up and got most of the trickier ones. @elephant stone: Nope, not really. Blacks only make up 2.5% of our population, and most of those are either American or Caribbean. To compare, the Chinese population alone is 3.7%.

@Freddie: Remember that Hong Kong is part of China now so, if Hong Kong were included as a full answer, the China total would have to drop.

@davidr: I think he meant the population of Chinese descent, the number in the quiz is only the population born in China.

I'm amazed that a country as small as Sri Lanka is on here above something like Spain or Japan

Spain and Japan don't have the internal strife Sri Lanka has. The Japanese visit Canada, the Sri Lankans stay.

Being Canadian, it's funny how I'm sure your regional bias influences your guesses - In Edmonton we definitely have a huge community of people from the horn (Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia). I also guessed Senegal - I would have thought those countries would be on the list before sya, Egypt or El Salvador. My parents' countries are not on the list - I am not surprised - no South American countries... Portugal was a lock - but I was surprised at how high up it was Slightly surprised with no Thailand I thought of Guyana just because of a few friends from there - lucky guess I would have been ashamed if I missed Haiti - thought it would have been higher as well @JWC @mdallway: school friends did help: I got Lebanon, and Sri Lanka quickly that way Great quiz: all in all I've been waiting for this one for a while as you might tell...

Nice to see Hong Kong as a bonus answer. I've found that Chinese people that emigrate to wherever DO seem make a distinction between HK Chinese and Mainland Chinese. Being first gen CBC, I don't tend to but my parents (from HK) do and many of my former colleagues in the States (from Mainland China) did as well. I think it may be a lingual thing since people from HK speak Cantonese and the majority of Chinese speak Mandarin.

Doesn't surprise me that The Netherlands is quite high on the list. Dutch people tend to go to North America end Australia. I expected Belgium to be on the list as well, but there are apparently more people from Sri Lanka, Taiwan, El Salvador and even T&T in Canada. I always miss the Philippines, I forget that so many people live there.

Of course a lot of Russians move to Canada. You can practically see Russia from Alaska and you can just barely see it from Canada.

Did a face palm on the U.S., Greece, Haiti, and the Philippines. I just have a hard time thinking of the U.S. as a foreign population. When I think of foreign countries, I think of all countries other than the U.S. Probably because Canada gets so much of their media stations and magazines and such and the pop cultures are pretty much the same scene.

I managed to miss the US too... I would say people always miss the blindingly obvious, but the 98.8% who did get it doesn't really support me on that point. Ah, well.
