Does winning 1 gold medal qualify you to make the list of who won the most golds? There should be a cutoff to keep this from being a game about guessing countries at random, which I still like doing by the way.

Got Mozambique, Suriname and Hong Kong, completely forgot about the existence of Portugal and Benelux. Oh dear.

This has been mentioned on other olympic quizes, but should the Federal Republic of Germany really be made a separate country in the list just because it gained a little territory-legally nothing else changed.

Can someone explain why India is so bad at the Olympics? I would think that, just by chance, they would end up with enough athletes to win 2 or 3 golds per Olympics.

The only fun part of this quiz is finding out the gold medal counts of all the countries. Other than that, it is just another guess the countries of the world (boring).

I'm a little confused by the teaser - how is a country that has won a single gold medal one of the countries that has "won the most gold medals"?

So yesterday's quiz considers "Germany" and "West Germany" the same, but today they're different? Germany should get both answers on this.

@sporclover: I agree. It should be "Name the countries who have won gold medals in the Summer Olympics."

@brewoodlodger, I had the opposite problem, where I got Czech Republic and Slovakia but forgot to try Czechoslovakia.

Serbian olympic committee is legal successor of yugoslavian committee. So every medal before 1992 officially belongs to Serbia (even croatian, macedonian, montenegrian...). At least on the paper.

@kahlvin: possibly due to the fact that the most popular sport in India by a country mile is cricket, which is not an Olympic sport. Interest in India is focused on just a handful of sports, only one of which - hockey - is represented in the Olympics (all but one of India's golds, plus a silver and two bronzes come from hockey)

There is no longer a Soviet Union or a Yugoslavia. Whomever made up this quiz needs to reread their history books or read the news more.

The United Kingdom has never competed in the Olympic games, the team is Great Britain, which has subtle but distinctive differences, the main ones being Northern Irish athletes can compete for Ireland, and the GB team includes people from the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, which are not constituent parts of the UK.

The quiz is kinda dumb. Just name as many countries, past and present, as you can. Whoopee. (I gave it a 2 rating.)

This says to name all the countries, not all the gold medal winners. 'Unified team' and 'Mixed team' are not countries, so should not be included as per the title and instructions of the game. (As well as Hong Kong and Australasia.)
