	The Spurs haven't had a high pick since 1997? I guess Duncan really improved their team. The Blazers haven't had a high pick in five years? I guess Oden really improved their - wait!

	Most, if not all teams, would have drafted Greg Oden over Kevin Durant in 2007. It's easy to for a GM or a basketball "expert" to say that they would have taked Durant in 2012, but five years ago it was a much tougher choice. On the other hand, Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan was a head scratcher at the time and looks really stupid now. Seeing names like Charles Barkley, John Stockton, and Kevin Willis coming after Sam Bowie makes you wonder what the brain trust in Portland was smoking in 1984.

	@jeff Given the circumstances- what plagued Oden and Bowie wasn't ineffectiveness, but injury- I'd say that those picks weren't even that bad. They didn't help the franchise, sure, but they did draft two good players who were just marred by injuries.

	Greg "the stiff" Oden? Really? The guy's played one year's worth of games since he was drafted, he pushed himself to come back earlier than he should have, and the Blazers didn't exactly encourage him to make sure he was healthy first before doing so. That, if anywhere, is where Portland messed up. Or maybe Greg Oden's knees weren't ever going to hold up in the NBA. But to call him a stiff because he couldn't stay healthy is to reveal that you haven't really been paying attention.

	Duncan joins the worst team in their league, and they make the playoffs as a high seed for 15 straight years. Not to mention the team never had high draft picks to help him out. What a baller

	cardiaccats, the spurs were just fine. they stunk that year because david robinson went down early.

	thwirsh- This is true. The Spur's best player, David Robinson, went down for the year pretty early on. They still had a pretty good team, but missed the playoffs. ALSO, they beat some of the worst odds in lottery history to end up with the #1 pick- possibly the farthest odds ever, I'm not 100% sure. It might be similar to something like Dwight Howard missing most of the year, the Magic finishing with the 10th or 12th worst record, then ending up with the #1 pick, Howard ready to go again the next season.

	@pete32782: So what ur saying is that Portland and their team doctors or any outside specialists they consulted didn't care enuf about their prized #1 draft choice who they hoped wd. lead them to great success for many years to come, that the team cared more about the 'now' rather than the future. And since Mr. Oden got his big contract up-front his agent didn't care either, since he already got his cut. Or maybe I'm just too cynical.

	The Boston Celtics never drafted Jeff Green, he was traded to them.

	Actually he was drafted by Boston. He was then part of the trade that brought Ray Allen to the Celtics from the Supersonics/Thunder. Then after a few years he was trade from OKC for Perkins
