| There is a "Gypsy" (Kawliyah) community in Iraq, but it's a very small minority. Most estimates that I've seen from reliable sources are around 50,000. Kawliyah community leaders themselves claim that there are at least 60,000. But the figure of 3m (10% of Iraq's population!) is simply not credible. Moreover, the Kawliyah community in Iraq is Dom, not Romani, as are the "Gypsy" communities in Iran, Jordan etc. All in all, the figures in the source are highly questionable. Shame, as it's a good subject for a quiz. |
