a very fun quiz. Canada has a lot of tall buildings per capita.

I have also made a US only version: http://www.sporcle.com/games/biff_smiff/us_highrise

This quiz baffles me. I can't believe that these cities (and all the others that didn't make the list) have so few highrises. 12 stories is not a tall building... Great quiz.

I find it particularly surprising that Washington DC makes this list, considering nothing (except the washington monument) is allowed to be taller than the capitol.

I never associated tall buildings with Canada. I will now.

As others have noted, Washington seems strange. I found this in the source notes, which may explain it (presuming Arlington, VA might be in the numbers): "The cities listed here do not all follow the same rules for boundary limitations. Some of the cities are metropolitan regions comprised of two or more municipalities, while others are single municipalities. A more consistent list of cities will be developed in time."

@NYNarwhal: The rule about nothing (except the Washington Monument) being allowed to be taller than the Capitol hasn't been on the books for a century. The 1889 Heights of Buildings Act was amended in 1910 so that the height limit is the width of the facing street plus twenty feet.

Man, I should have guessed Honolulu; it's full of 15-story apartment buildings and 20-story hotels. Vancouver's downtown is huge and full of people; it feel more urban than anything else on the west coast except San Francisco.

For all those surprised by the large number of Canadian and American cities: skyscraperpage is based on input by its members, the site is anglophone so most of the visitors are from anglophone countries. If the list was an actual representation of highrises, very few American cities (probably 2 or 3) and Canadian cities (probably 1 or 2) would be on the list.

Yeah sure man. Like Washington DC has more highrises than Manila, Seoul or Osaka

These might just be the numbers that SSP has diagrams for. Sao Pulo is a sea of highrises, as are most Chinese and South American cities.

HudsonHawk and Tabasco make good points. This source is highly suspicious. I've lived in Seoul and been to Toronto a dozen times. I highly doubt Toronto has more high-rises, and certainly not 5 or 6 times as many. I call BS.

For consistency the list should read "Washington, USA" without DC - including DC is like "Dallas, TX, USA" or "Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada" which is not how the rest of the quiz is listed - look at the source or look at the US census (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/11/1150000.html) "Washington" alone is listed as the city name

A much more fair list. I knew NYC had the most by far. As for Canada's strange strength in the list, I can see that works if one considers that this counts only the city proper. I know that the suburbs of Asian cities rarely have much in the way of high rises, so it isn't really warping the list too much. If American high rises in the suburbs were counted, the USA would dominate the list more than it already does. I'm also happy to see a list which finally puts Hong Kong, Dubai and Shanghai in their place; far BENEATH New York and Chicago!

wildly innacurate, Sao Paulo has skyscrapers stretching as far as the eye can see, the idea of Ottawa or Washington having more high-rises is absurd

Don't think this is accurate at all. Both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are packed with apartment buildings with > 14 stories. A bunch of cities in China such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen have a 20 story building in every corner, and if you go to Taipei, Osaka it's the same.
