| The 1989-90 loss to New Zealand and 1996-97 loss to India were both in one off test matches.
The 171 loss to India in 2001 came after Australia led by 274 in the first innings. The 445 turnaround between innings is the largest in first class cricket history to result in a victory. Both that loss and the 1999 loss to the West Indies occurred after Australia failed to take an opposition wicket in an entire day. With India, it was Laxman and Dravid who survived the full six hours, with West Indies it was Lara and Adams.
The 1 run loss to West Indies, the 2 run loss to England and the 5 run loss to South Africa are the 1st, 2nd and 5th closest results in test cricket history. The Pakistan win in 1994-95 only came after a superb innings from Inzamam Ul-Haq, who farmed the strike for over an hour in a 58 run tenth wicket partnership. The 3 wickets loss to the West Indies in 2003 and the 6 wicket loss to South Africa in 2008-09 are the two highest successful run chases in test cricket history.
