INSTRUCTIONS: To begin type GO, or if you prefer to see some examples to help you get started type HELP. The goal is to reach the end of the maze by solving the clues along the way. As in a traditional ladder, every adjacent word has exactly one letter changed from any adjacent word such as LIKE -> BIKE -> BAKE -> RAKE -> TAKE, but only one path will eventually lead to the end, so hurry. If you reach a square adjacent to the finish and would like to continue to explore tha maze before finishing, do so first as answering the question adjacent to the finish will cause the game to end - (or obviously you can just start again with a fresh clock and explore more leisurely). Good luck and enjoy.

I love these--but the clue "small change" seems to indicate a plural answer. I also don't get the next to last clue "unblemished".
Mar 15th, 2011 at 14:21 GMT
^ When something is in mint condition that means it is in perfect shape aka unblemished. Tough yes, but I think betraisefold did that on purpose.

You know its not going to end well when you cant get the first word...
Apr 5th, 2011 at 04:49 GMT
Since the singer Seal has a song called "Fly Like an Eagle" I accidentally skipped ahead to near the end of the labyrinth after the first clue. Still, great quiz as usual.
Apr 5th, 2011 at 10:47 GMT
spring = well?? anyone care to explain?
Apr 5th, 2011 at 14:26 GMT
Yeah, a couple of these are tough - "alarm" feels like a bit of a stretch for its clue. Also, a recommendation: on the "FINISH/YOU DID IT" spaces, rather than making the final word open the entire quiz, display a codeword like "Type COMPLETE to fill in all clues", and then those who want to auto-finish can type COMPLETE, whereas those who want to explore the rest of the clues can do so.
Apr 5th, 2011 at 14:29 GMT
also, keep making these. they're so awesome and such a cool use of the sporcle format.

I almost quit the quiz, because I was convinced it was broken when I typed in "FLEE" for defect (i.e., thinking of one defecting from one country to another). *Facepalm*

Spring = Well in the sense that its something that ground water comes out of. Think of it like a Mountain Spring or a Wishing Well, not like a coil and 'good'
Apr 5th, 2011 at 18:58 GMT
@RadiationPuppy: me too. That ought to be changed.
Apr 5th, 2011 at 19:39 GMT
@RadiationPuppy: Thanks, it has been changed to 'a defect'.
Apr 6th, 2011 at 19:44 GMT
That was very tough, but I managed to get through it. With 15 seconds left, I had just found MINT and I immediately finished it, and the only dead end I hadn't gotten to was FIND.
Apr 6th, 2011 at 20:18 GMT
@metagloria: Thanks very much for that suggestion, I instead added a warning at the last question of each quiz to inform people that it will end when that clue is answered and it has, so far, seemed to alleviate some of the confusion and frustration. I appreciate the help.
Apr 8th, 2011 at 13:47 GMT
@Kahlvin: thanks for clearing that up
May 10th, 2011 at 08:20 GMT
I like the quiz, but 'spring' isn't exactly associated with 'well'; its too broad. Maybe say 'spring water'. Otherwise people look at it as a verb or a coiled object.
May 13th, 2011 at 18:44 GMT
I really love these quizzes, but a couple of the hints in this one just aren't great. Well and spring have already been discussed. They're really not the same thing. A well is man-made and a spring is natural. Obstacle is also a very poor description of snag.
May 15th, 2011 at 19:24 GMT
a bit ridiculous when you throw 'clam' and 'slug' under their class or whatever as a bivalve or gastropod...
Jun 10th, 2011 at 18:01 GMT
If you uncheck the box under the timer that says "Show Me Missed Answers," you can start over and try again when you run out of time. Also, I'm okay with the tricky clues. After all, you already know it's going to be a four-letter word and that it's going to sound sort of like the one before it. That's already enough to start guessing words… If the clues were too obvious, the game would be really easy. Although I do sort of agree about well… I was trying made-up things like "heln" and "holl," thinking it was some geographic term I wasn't familiar with.

Consistently tough from beginning to end. Both the maze design and the clues were the best yet.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:37 GMT
A couple of these hints are stretching things a bit if just not bad, but overall a good word laddrynth.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:45 GMT
I Love Laddyrinths!
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:47 GMT
I don't know that "squalorous" is actually a word. Clue should use "squalid" instead.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:49 GMT
The second to last clue was tough for me. Nice job!
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:54 GMT
Did anyone else type in "crap" for the clue "stuff"?
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 06:04 GMT
Found this much harder than any of the similar puzzles, but seemingly for no good reason. So many headslappers.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 07:28 GMT
Really liked this! Some that really tested me on this one. Not wanting to lower the tone but ... the answer to the 'Hairstyle' clue means something quite different over here in the UK ...
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 07:39 GMT
Hmm. I definitely thought some of the clues left something to be desired.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 09:11 GMT
Great quiz, just the way I like them. Tough but doable. The only squarrel I have with it is that the clues for Thwart, Deceive and Filthy change the same letter in a row. That being said, amazing job!
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 10:03 GMT
I find it very amusing that around 50 people so far appear to have typed in "you did it" in order to win.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 10:03 GMT
great little quiz. Shag means something different where I come from!
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 10:36 GMT
I succeeded in finishing in that only by stumbling onto a word very near the end by complete accident lol.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 11:47 GMT
Wow. I thought these clues were awful. Look, it's fine to have a couple of clues that could be interpreted several different ways, but nearly ALL of them were confusing and misleading. I don't like it. You have my disapproval.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 12:05 GMT
I only have an issue with one of the clues -- all the rest look fine. Alarm does not mean Fear. "Feeling of fear" or an actual synonym would be better.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 12:54 GMT
would have finished it if I'd not got stuck trying to spell it fowl rather than foul. Rats!
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 13:17 GMT
I feel like a fool for taking so long to get fool.
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 13:56 GMT
0~O~0~O~0~O~0? Thats frustrating
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 14:37 GMT
Looking forward to going to the hairdresser and asking for a shag. Not looking forward to the slap I'll get so much
Aug 2nd, 2011 at 15:10 GMT
As other have stated...some poor clues "definitions" My issue was with "Be bothered by"
