This list is based on who would get in if they played their last NBA game tomorrow, so guys like Chris Paul and Dwight Howard who are locks because we're certain they'll continue their level of play for the next 10 years don't count. Also its important to remember that this is the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame, not the "NBA" hall of fame. There are a couple people who will say "Hey, Player X had an underwhelming NBA career!", remember that stuff like NCAA titles and international play are also factors....as well as stuff like "expanding the brand of NBA into other countries" (in case you're wondering about the first Rocket listed, David Stern said he was a lock for that reason)

Also remember that this is of course subjective so all arguments as to who to subtract/add are welcome!

James is a lock. Every player in NBA history who has won an MVP award has gotten into the hall. Ming has an outside shot at best, and only because of his status in the league and attention he draws, he misses too many games and isn't a dominant enough player to make the hall.

I would like to think of Allen Iverson as a Hall of Fame lock, but he seems to be missing from this list.

@the777joker777 Yao misses too many games? Compare Yao's numbers to Bill Walton's. Yao has played MORE games, scored way more points, with a better shooting percentage and a better free throw percentage. If Walton's a hall of famer, Yao certainly is too. @indyflash88 Allen Iverson is not currently in the NBA.

Iverson retired yesterday, which would make him ineligible for this quiz, if he does indeed stay retired. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sixers/20091126_Unemployed_Iverson_reportedly_is_retiring.html

This game is ridiculous! There are at least 5 guys better than some of the people you listed on here. 3 Celtics guys too? Do I sense some Boston bias?

@celtic_fc McGrady was the Carmelo Anthony of the early part of the decade. If you take Anthony's numbers from the past 5 years and compare them to McGrady's numbers from 2000-2005 (McGrady's five years older, so we go back five years to compare them at the same age), you'll find that they're very similar. Their scoring and rebounding averages are nearly identical. Since then, McGrady's had a hard time staying healthy. We'll see what happens to Anthony.

idk about the boston bias allen is a lock because he is second all time in 3 point shots made and he may even pass reggie miller...kevin garnett is also a lock with the numbers hes put up over the years...and pierce maybe right now i can see the argument for him not being there but by the end of his career he will be a lock

I see no need for Grant Hill on this list, but otherwise I agree with the players mentioned 100 percent.

I agree on Grant Hill, no chance, just too injury prone, I actually guessed Stoudemire before guessing Hill, but the rest of this list is pretty spot on. Carmelo Anthony would be a better choice over Hill, props for including Billups who many people forget about, I also think Peja has a better shot than Hill because of his international contributions to the game.

Some justification: Yeah Iverson is no doubt a HOF first ballot lock but he's not an active player. @Haushinka I'm actually a hardcore Lakers fan and live in LA. I think we can all agree about Garnett, and Allen and Pierce are put over the top because of their 2008 championship. I mean Allen is second in three pointers made and has a bunch of great stats and awards, and Pierce was one of the top players in the league for 10 years and then won a Finals MVP. MVPs, Finals MVPs (except for Tony Parker since his Finals MVP was kind of a fluke) and scoring titles count a lot. I listed Hill as an outside shot since I don't personally think he'll get in, but I've heard a lot of people argue his case....don't forget about his dominance with the Pistons for the last half of the nineties, the fact that he was more or less the face of the league besides Jordan for awhile, the fact that this is the BASKETBALL hall of fame so his two NCAA titles help, and the fact that he's been playing basketball at a high level for 17 years despite all the injuries.

I think Peja and Pau Gasol both have better shots at the HOF than McGrady. I can see Hill, just because of the early part of his career and the college days, but unless McGrady returns to his earlier form and gets the rockets to the finals a few times, I don't see him making it.

I think if he retired right now Lebron would still go to the Hall of Fame. I also don't think Ming has much of chance.

I don't think Vince Carter has even a small chance, unless he wins a championship this year with Orlando. Dwight Howard is a much more likely candidate imo. And yes he's young, but not much younger than LeBron or D-Wade

If this is based on college play too, shouldn't Tyler Hansbrough be a lock? He leads the ACC in points and is the all-time NCAA leader in free throws made.

I'll just say kudos for making this list, it's tough to do and no matter who you put on it, people will disagree and debate on. Can't make everyone happy, but keep up the good work.

I'm a huge Chauncey Billups fan for his years in Detroit, but he really isn't a Hall of Fame player. He isn't the best, or even second-best, PG of his generation. You can put him in the top-five during his prime probably, but that isn't good enough for the Hall. He has no individual accolades outside of his Finals MVP trophy. He hasn't even ever started an All-Star game. I have no idea why he is on here. He doesn't have a high chance, he doesn't have much of a chance at all.

The only true locks are Duncan, Shaq, Garnett, Bryant, and Kidd. Nash is only a lock because of his joke MVP awards (Stockton, Kidd, Isiah Thomas & Payton never won MVPs, mind you). Paul Pierce is just this decade's Mitch Richmond, who is nowhere near the hall. What gives him a "very high chance?" And as for Yao - 19 and 9 gets you to the HOF? You might as well add Elton Brand to this list then.

You REALLY should've included your source, as otherwise people have no idea why you put in the answers that you did. At least we could all see that Basketball-Reference.com is using some kind of metric to come up with these. http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob_active.html

Wow. I rarely ever hear anyone argue against Steve Nash, as there's not really much doubt there. He doesn't have championships, but he does have the two MVPs. Stockton and Thomas are in the HOF, but the reason they didn't win MVPs is because, well, that was just a golden age. If Stockton got MVP over Jordan...imagine the fury of a nation. Nash deserved at least one MVP award, and he does have the career to place him in the HOF.

Ginobili is an absolute lock - he is the best player in Argentina history and they won Olympic gold with him as the best player.
