| Dear Uninformed Bonehead (godpaul25): You really shouldn't have gotten me started on Brady vs. Manning. In Brady's defense: Super Bowl wins is just one category that people use to compare Brady to Manning. And it is a good one, seeing how that is the ultimate goal for every team each season. True, some of Manning's career stats are significantly higher than Brady's, such as completions, passing yards, and TDs. But Manning has also played about 65 more regular season games than Brady has, which is equivalent to around 4 extra seasons. Taking that into account, the stat difference is much less profound. And not all of Manning's stats are very different from Brady's. They have almost identical career passer ratings (Brady: 93.3, Manning: 95.2), completion percentages (Brady: 63.3%, Manning: 64.8%), and Yds/completion (Brady: 7.3, Manning: 7.7). In some regular season categories, Brady even has the upper hand (Brady has thrown about 50% as many INTs in about 70% as many games). Take a look at post-season stats and they tell a different story (Brady's record: 14-4, Manning's record: 9-8). Manning has 1 SB MVP, Brady has 2. Manning has the edge in NFL MVP awards (4 to 1). Brady holds the NFL record for TDs in a season and led his team to the only 16-0 regular season in NFL history. Both have countless lesser awards and records that no particularly cares about. Now I know I'm fighting a losing battle with most of the nation here, but all I'm saying is that it's not an automatic wash when you look at "statistics and records." I say let these guys play out their careers and then decide. But before you say "it's not even close," I would inform yourself on the numbers before you speak. And I reject the notion that you decide who is the better QB on stats and records alone. Things such as Super Bowl wins, playoff wins, and big game wins all matter. You'd be hard pressed to find an NFL fan who would be happier with an 8-8 season and a QB with 5500 yards than with a SB ring. Comparing Brady to Manning is similar to comparing Montana to Marino. There are good arguments for both sides, but to say it is "not even close" is just stupid. |
