	Pretty pleased with my 34. Spent way too long trying to work out how to spell Bannister as I was certain he'd be the answer for 1954! You do need to add Chris Hoy - it has been nearly 9 months!! @matt - so terribly sorry the UK list isn't up to your, clearly, very high standards; perhaps you'll forgive us as our population from which to draw our sportspeople is less than a fifth of yours!

	40/54. Quite pleased considering i'm only 15. Got all but 1 back to 1977 and come on Sporcle add Chris Hoy.

	I did the same as tigerschick - spent too much time trying different spellings of Bannister! Crikey, 56% were unable to guess Bobby Moore would have won in 1966?! While you're adding Hoy for 2008, might as well add Haye for 2009 too.

	Oh dear God!! I don't know why he won but you'd better add Ryan Giggs as well as Chris Hoy! abanazerb - I agree with you but there you go, Mr Giggs got it this year ... at least he was shocked to pick it up!

	Ryan Giggs winning this year (2009) was nothing short of a travesty. He's had a great career, but this isn't an award that is meant to look beyond the last twelve months, and the voters clearly didn't do that. Manchester United fans voted for their idol en masse and Giggs became the least deserving winner in history. I feel really sorry for the other candidates: they truly had career-defining years worthy of the award yet were left shortchanged by the final decision.

	Ah bostnboy (did they run out of vowels for your user name by any chance?) always ready with the pithy and pertinent critique eh? You can moan about the over-emphasis on football(that's Association Football, not American football by the way)but, hey the rest of the world seems to have that particular bug as well. Athletes compete in championships EVEN WHEN IT'S NOT AN OLYMPIC YEAR and, here's a thing...they actually win. It's not ENGLAND who's voting for the BBC sports personality of the year, it's the people of the UK (see that Chris Hoy bloke...he's from Edinburgh which, last time I checked wasn't in England) and it's also not the sports MAN of the year as, if you check it out, you'll find some women have won it as well.
