It's almost impossible to distinguish no 2 from a plaice, and to distinguish no 9 from a puffer fish, in those photos. Maybe you should accept those answers too. Good quiz otherwise!

Neon Tetra sounds more like the name of a sci-fi spaceship than that of a fish...

how do you make these quizzes, i can make pic quizzes but i dnt no how to put them in a grid
Oct 26th, 2010 at 20:00 GMT
Yes, I'd like the #8 with the fresh vegetables and and some ice water, please. In all seriousness, though, an excellent job putting this together, bbainn! @NUFC4EVA, I usually just use Microsoft Word and under the 'table' menu create a table with as many spaces as I have pictures. Then I insert each picture, putting a number below it. To turn that into a picture file, I take a screen capture of it using the 'print screen' button, paste it into MS Paint or Photoshop and save it as a picture file type. If I'm not making any sense (I often don't), feel free to email me.

Great quiz, bbainn - 5 sporcles easily! @Hejman: Yeah, I'm hungry now too, for some reason... :)
Oct 27th, 2010 at 01:24 GMT
Not enough pirarucus...actually, it was simply fantastic, great for us fish nerds who do indeed exist!
Oct 27th, 2010 at 01:32 GMT
Thanks everyone! I enjoyed putting it together, I've been interested in learning about fish since I was a little kid. @zzyzx501: I actually did consider putting in a pirarucu, they're quite the impressive fish!

Great quiz. Playing Endless Ocean is the only reason I did well on this, one of the few games where I learned something other than guns hurt people.
Oct 27th, 2010 at 05:34 GMT
If only you would accept the character names from Finding Nemo...but that's not exactly the point, I guess. Cool quiz.
Oct 27th, 2010 at 06:07 GMT
Haha I was about to say can you accept Nemo and Dory? :P
Oct 27th, 2010 at 10:54 GMT
wow, this quiz really demonstrated to me how fish illiterate I am
Oct 27th, 2010 at 11:21 GMT
damn - i tried japanese fighting fish, but not the geographic variation. very hard, but strangely rewarding when you get nswers.
Oct 27th, 2010 at 12:42 GMT
+1 for including the coelacanth.

@lalalala - well it does say can you name the fish? And I can name the fish. I hereby name fish #3 Dory.
Oct 28th, 2010 at 13:15 GMT
I would do better at this quiz if you showed pieces of sushi
Oct 28th, 2010 at 13:21 GMT
good quiz. tough but fun.
Oct 29th, 2010 at 07:15 GMT
#13 definitely isnt an alligator gar
Oct 29th, 2010 at 14:20 GMT
@jjs91: Honestly it would be difficult to tell without looking at the fish's open mouth, but since I can't prove it I've picked a picture of a different gar (even though alligator gar are much cooler, but apparently there are no good pictures of them when they're not being held by fishermen).

Damn that Parrotfish! All I could think was six line wrasse... but I knew that it wasn't that! At least they're related, right? Haha.
Oct 29th, 2010 at 18:17 GMT
Oh also... and I'm not complaining at all because lord knows I don't know everything about fish... isn't it a STOPlight Parrotfish and not a SPOTlight Parrotfish? Just curious! Great quiz too, btw!
Oct 29th, 2010 at 18:22 GMT
Oops, you're right it is Stoplight. Good catch!

I don't think I would want to run into an anglerfish in a dark alley...
Jan 7th, 2011 at 12:12 GMT
Heck yeah, got the Moorish Idol. Thank you Odell Down Under!
Jan 13th, 2011 at 05:59 GMT
Hundred bucks says more than half the 90% who got clownfish would have missed it if it weren't for Finding Nemo. As it was, I guessed Dory for the Regal Tang. Woulda been hilarious if it was accepted.
Jan 18th, 2011 at 16:35 GMT
Funny, I always thought no. 6 was a Mr. Miyagi fish.
Jan 28th, 2011 at 12:06 GMT
Maybe accept Beta Fish for the Siamese Fighting Fish, because that is what I have always heard them called.
Jan 29th, 2011 at 10:37 GMT
Well, I do accept "betta".
Jan 30th, 2011 at 02:06 GMT
Aah, got it. I must have been spelling it wrong. Sorry 'bout the confusion!
Feb 12th, 2011 at 16:40 GMT
No slippery dick? Missed chance there. Nice quiz though.
Mar 22nd, 2011 at 17:27 GMT
I was so disheartened when Nemo didn't work...
Jul 3rd, 2011 at 03:39 GMT

Aug 25th, 2011 at 20:36 GMT
Perhaps you should also accept perch for #13. I know there's another perch as well, but that's what's commonly referred to as perch in the southern US.

It didn't accept "Dory" for the third one.

All those hours playing Odell Down Under were not in vain!
Oct 17th, 2011 at 04:17 GMT
I'm glad I'm not the only one who tried character names from Finding Nemo.
Oct 17th, 2011 at 04:32 GMT
That humpback anglerfish totally wants to eat your face.
Oct 17th, 2011 at 04:36 GMT
I could not spell "coelacanth" for the life of me.
