I am expecting a few teething problems with this so please be patient. I'm sure there is no one in the world that could really be an expert on all these sports and I am no exception. I have had to rely heavily on Wikipedia to tell me who is reasonably famous in some sports and on Google Images to give me accurate pictures of the people who I've never seen. I can't be totally sure how well known or significant particular people are, most notably in the four big American sports. Hopefully all the names should be well recognisable to anyone who follows the sport closely, with a few pictures from historical eras which may be able to catch them out. Conversely there may be a couple of guessable names for people who don't follow the sport but otherwise they should be left totally clueless. Please let me know if I've made any drastic errors with your favourite sport - in terms of wrong picture, not accepting common names or just picking someone that nobody has ever heard of, so that I can fix the quiz for everyone else.
I've tried to avoid using people completely synonymous with their sports (Pele, Jordan, Gretzky, Babe Ruth etc) except in more minor sports to give everyone a chance of guessing a couple.
This quiz is, by its nature, designed to be very difficult. I'll be more worried if people were averaging 80-90% than if they are getting 30-40% so don't feel bad if you think you haven't done very well. I realise the time is pretty tight. It could have been worse - I'd originally planned to do 25 Sports and 300 answers in total to make it a real blitz so count yourselves lucky I got bored of trying to find important people from more and more minor sports.
I'm hoping this will be a nice little experiment into what are the most closely followed sports on Sporcle. Everyone will have their strong rounds and their weak rounds but ultimately the biggest sports fans should come out on top. Good luck and have fun. |
