I feel like I'm missing something here. After the first 2 clues, all we're given to go on is that everyone is adjacent to one of the 5 main Simpsons, and Mr. Burns is adjacent to Maggie. Your step-by-step guide states that from the first clue, we can determine that the 4 other main Simpsons are in B2, B4, D2, and D4, so Maggie is in D4.
But isn't it equally possible to satisfy the first 2 clues by putting Maggie in E4, then the other 3 Simpsons in D1, A2, and B5? Or alternatively, by putting Maggie in D5, then the other 3 in A4, B1, and E2? As long as adjacent includes diagonals, I don't see why either of these options isn't a possibility; or is there something very obvious that I overlooked? |
