Yay, my sign language study finally did something for me! Great quiz, I'd love to see more!

Wow, this is awesome. May well be my favorite "cryptogram" on Sporcle.

@dolebanana: Cryptogram! I knew they had a real name. *Adds to tags*
@Starchild: Thanks. I do have another similar quiz in the pipeline but I'm using a different language to keep people guessing - your sign language can't help you now. *Evil Laugh*

Well, even though I did horrible, this is probably one of the greatest games I have ever seen! 5 globes, nomination, and fave!

This has undoubtedly confused my slight knowledge of British Sign Language, but is undoubtedly the best cryptogram I've seen. Brilliant job. I expect to see more coming!

I should actually make a small apology to my fellow Brits here. I'd originally planned this quiz with the intention of having a button on the first page where you could choose to either take the quiz in ASL or BSL. Unfortunately, as the BSL letters are largely two handed, it just looked like it would be too cramped and not work as well. Technically it is probably better that everyone has the consistency of taking the same quiz but I still feel like I've betrayed people slightly by not allowing them to have the choice.

I played this 3 times. Once, to get 4/5 of North America..second time to finish South America..and third time to finish all the last three sections. So, either the last three were really really easy OR I learned some sign language. (Thanks!)

Would people like more time in general? Obviously it needs to be kept quite tight as with enough time, everyone will eventually be able to figure out all of the answers. Currently about a third of players are getting 100% but I'm sure people would rather not have to play through it three or more times to get to the end.
Also, thanks so much for the positive feedback everyone. I've never had a quiz get so many consecutive 5 orbs before and your nice comments have made all the time spent Photoshopping the signs together worthwhile.

might be helpful to make the timer start before the slideshow for the added challenge, as you can scan through without starting the timer. altogether, great quiz! awesome idea!

@raragigi: How to make image quizzes is probably one of the most asked questions on Sporcle. If you click the f.a.q. link at the bottom of the page you can get a detailed description of how to do it. Basically, Sporcle don't have the webspace to be able to host everyone's pictures and videos so they ask that you use external hosting sites like photobucket, imageshack and youtube. When you upload content to any of these sites you are given an 'embed' button which will give you a code that can be copied and pasted into your quiz so that the image appears.
@rjm264: There is nothing I can do about when the timer starts I'm afraid. It is built into the site so I can't control it. I could possibly do something to the Flash file that made it go blank after a certain amount of time (in the style of MrChewypoo's Defuse the Bomb quiz - http://www.sporcle.com/games/MrChewypoo/tick_tock_tick_tock) but I don't think it would be fair on people who wanted to take the time to read through instructions etc. It's no different to the daily word ladders really - if you're desperate to get 100% you can figure out all the answers before pressing go.

Ooo my 'native' language (well technically no. I didn't learn until I was 18); even though I grew up oral- I will always prefer ASL/sign language if I can :) I am looking forward to seeing other country sign alphabets! >signs< 5 globes :)

I know the alphabet in the Finnish sign language and it was definitely not much help here. Great quiz though!

@robhop: Could you tell me your screen resolution settings so I can test it? The image is about 600x600 so I think it should fit on most monitors unless it has been zoomed. Does it still not fit if you hold Ctrl and press the minus button?

Maybe add more time if you want people to take this as a cryptogram? I kind of know the sign language alphabet and still only had 29 seconds to spare.

I didn't even know there were different sign languages (although now when I think about it, it's pretty obvious). The one I learned (Swedish) can be seen here, if anyone wants to compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TGvDI9hoPk

@ArtFever: An interesting thing I learned whilst making this is that American Sign Language is quite similar to French Sign Language but completely different to British Sign Language. So a deaf American can understand a deaf French person quite well, but they wouldn't understand anything signed by a deaf English person.
