| Yeah, the transliteration is a tricksy business. It is definitely possible to use the original alphabets and in fact I'd originally begun by doing it that way. I decided to swap them out for romanised versions because I felt like it would give a more level playing field for everyone. Lots of people know how to say a simple greeting like hello in multiple languages, and they can potentially use the transliterations to sound out the correct answer in their heads. To recognise the alphabets, people would probably have had to study the language at some point, so I felt fewer people would be able to get as many right that way. The other option would be to have something like Здравствуйте (Zdravstvujte) but aesthetically it would probably be quite ugly. I'll leave it like this for now to give a few more people a chance to voice their opinion. It shouldn't take too long to change it to whatever most people think is best. Alternatively, if you have a more recognisable transliteration for the Russian, feel free to put it forward. |
