Good quiz, though a significantly lower amount of people seem to be getting the answer to "Precaution Beloved," at about 6%, and the next least guessed is 27.5%. Maybe you ought to change it.

I'm glad to find that "Hey Ox Head Dog" wasn't "Hey Jude".

Always told my students not to use translation sites. Always a lot of fun reading them, though!

This should be answer in order. Otherwise you can just keep naming Beatles songs without even looking at the translations.

How does "Kite" translate to "Flying Red Deer?" LOL

@moviegoer74 & @EmYanks2001: If you can remember and name all 200+ Beatles songs in 6 minutes then fair play to you. You deserve to get 100% without using the clues. I think for most people this is a small enough selection of The Beatles' catalogue for the clues to be at least moderately useful in narrowing down the possibilities.
Dec 27th, 2011 at 21:38 GMT
"Hey, ox head dog!" Oooooh, it's so easy to sing with the right rhythm, too.
Dec 27th, 2011 at 22:01 GMT
@ baz...Oh no doubt there's a couple that you're not likely to get without looking at the clues. I wasn't suggesting one could get a perfect score. I couldn't get 100% even with the clues, as I'd never heard of Hey Ox Head Dog. But their 200+ song catalog only comes into play if you're talking about getting 100%. Anyone reasonably familiar with the Beatles can get about 16/20 by just running through the 35-40 most popular Beatles songs, which is easily doable in 6 minutes. It's just my opinion, but I don't think that should be possible.
I think a quiz like this is both better and more fun if you have to actually consider all the clues to get the answers. That's true of most (though not all) quizzes, in my opinion, but it's particularly true on this quiz where the ENTIRE fun of the quiz is in the clues. The whole fun is whether you can figure out the title from the nutty translation, why allow people to get any answers without doing that? If they can't get one they can just click next to move on.
Also, considering the depth of their catalog and the small selection represented in the quiz, I would not have included Torsion and Cry, which is a cover and so isn't a Beatles song in the same sense as the others (though no doubt their version is the most famous).

That's a weird chance. I'd only heard of 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!' because a few days ago my interest in 'A Christmas Carol' led me to read the Wikipedia page for 1843 (when it was published). One of the other events listed was that which inspired this song's title. And now it crops up on Sporcle :O

Hey moviegoer74, respectfully, I think you're overthinking the pros and cons of doing it in order. Bazmerelda, good quiz. Funny stuff.

"i i pit" and "flying red deer" are absolutely my favorites. complete epicness. :D
Dec 28th, 2011 at 10:34 GMT
@moviegoer74 Don't worry about the down-votes for being a bit long-winded, which are really unfair I think. I for one know how tricky it is to be concise when you have a relatively complex idea to explain.
Dec 28th, 2011 at 11:41 GMT
I've got nothing against @moviegoer74 being long winded - I do that all the time. Anyway, I see your point and respect your opinion. Personally I think most people will perform better by using the clues properly and I would suspect almost all players do, maybe with a few random guesses thrown in when they are stuck at the end. I tend to find it annoying when a quiz is unnecessarily answer in order because when you want to skip some questions you have to click on the next one you think you can answer. You can find yourself clicking backwards and forwards trying different several possibilities for each clue anyway.

I'm sure many Beatles did "bowl together."
