	The second May one is traditionally known as the Whitsun holiday. Dont know many people who call it anything else!

	the holiday in August is not called summer bank holiday. Generally known as late summer bank holiday.

	i completely agree, i couldn't get "summer" and "spring" bank holidays until i cheated and read the comments. suggest that Whitsun be put as an alternative answer for spring bank holiday.

	WE SHOULD GET MORE BANK HOLIDAYS, EVERY COUNTRY IN EUROPE GETS MORE THAN US, INCLUDING SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND WHICH ARE SUPPOSEDLY PART OF THE SAME COUNTRY!

	Took me ages to figure out an alternative name for whitsun, please sort it sporcle! I always thought 'Boxing day' was named after the practice of taking unwanted gifts or leftovers to the poor in boxes, or maybe it's just families having a punch up over the charades. Who knows!!!

	hi, don't usually comment much, but i would say it was whitsun and august bank holiday - never heard anything else. @dani: i think it's called that because on the day after christmas churches used to open the collection boxes and hand out the money to the poor. but there are lots of different explanations.

	When I was growing up the holiday in late May was known as the Queens Birthday holiday, as the holiday was established in Queen Victorias time, and then remained as the Monarchs official birthday.

	wow don't you have boxing day in america? I assumed everyone called it that haha. Do you still get the day after xmas off? I couldn't cope with going straight back to work the next day

	May has always been Whit Monday(not to be confused with Whitsun, though sometimes called that as that means Whit Sunday!) and August was known as August bank holiday back when I was a lass!
