Funny how so many of them are in Europe. I bet it's because the English versions of European country names have had more time to become anglicized, and ending in Y is sort of characteristic of English...

I kept thinking, "Mexico City ... Guatemala City ... Kuwait City ... nope, they're all capitals, not countries." But did that make me think of Vatican City?!?! NO! Aaaarrrrgh! Good quiz.

but the country is called vatican, and the capital is vatican city... so that one shouldn't count.

actually, the name IS vatican city, because the territory is a city state, so they share the same name. its just that "vatican" is a commonly accepted abbreviation on sporcle quizzes to differentiate between talking about the state and the city

I got 7 countries in less than 1 minute, but didn't think at the last ( Vatican City ). In my opinion, it would be better with Vatican City as a bonus answer.

I think officially the country is Vatican City State, but obviously 'state' is routinely not used, so I'd say Vatican City is perfectly acceptable.

I tried thinking of obscure African and Asian countries so much that I ended up forgetting Italy, in true Sporcle fashion.
