#4 (NFL) seems like another good choice.

This is one of my least favorite of the sports quizzes. First of all, why no 13 for marino, etc. And there are so many people that can qualify as these numbers! 25 could have been bonds, Sosa, OR mcgwire, and a few others.

Sosa wore #21. this quiz would be cool if you had every number and an athlete for every number.

I dont like how the number 10 in soccer is only pele. Every soccer team has a number 10 and Brazil haven't retired the #10 jersey so I dont think this is a valid entry to the quiz. Same with the horseracing one.

why did some numbers include more than one person and others didn't. four people for 88, and only dimaggio for 5, or magic for 32?

I hate to say it, but this quiz sucks. It was a good idea but the way it was formatted, just numbers and sports, wasn't executed very well.

7= Mantle? 4= Favre? 2= Jeter? 42= Rivera (the last player to ever wear 42) I agree with Avi. Would be awesome to have a list 1-100 of athletes.

Maybe a separate quiz for each sport. Also you could possibly use a picture of the back of the jersey for an extra hint. #4 in pinstripes is Gehrig, but #4 on a green football jersey is Favre and son on. #6 MLB is Stan Musial.

In all honesty, there is no excuse for sporcle not to have deleted this quiz. It's an embarrassment to the site. How is Secretariat's # even 2? Because he wore the "2" saddlecloth in the Belmont? This quiz is easily the worst sports quiz on sporcle. As I said, there is no excuse, other than stubbornness, as to why this has not been removed.

I keep forgetting Nolan Ryan's number. And yea, a horse racer's number is very insignificant.

I'm afraid whoever has done this quiz knows nothing about soccer or horseracing. There's a number of other great players to wear number 10 (it's only in recent years and due to merchandising that starting players have worn numbers apart from 1-11). I also agree about Secretariat as potentially he only wore that number in that one race and NO racehorse have ever been known by the number they carried. The numbers relate to where they are in the racecard and aren't carried over from race to race.

this quiz is terrible. So many obvious ones left out. Favre 4, Ripken 8, Emmitt 32, etc, etc.

"Mean Joe" Greene had an "e" at the end of his name. I kept typing "Greene" and wasn't getting credit.

You guys need to quit shooting the messenger here. Blame the list-maker if you want, but this is an okay concept of a list. By thinking how ESPN thinks I got all but #30.

@ belowzero, emmitt was 22. worst quiz on sporcle so far. i typed about 5 names for half of these numbers that were all legit. its totally subjective as is, need to put some criteria like best jersey sales for each number to differentiate

JIm Kelly is a Hall of Fame quarterback...Tom Brady? Not yet, though well on the way. James Lofton...HOF #80. Thurman Thomas? HOF #34. Bernie Williams...#51...Mariano Rivera also wears 42, though Jackie Robinson is a choice all MLB fans would know. It should be updated to include many other acceptable "stars" especially Hall of Fame caliber.

Perhaps it would be good to edit out the specific sport. For example: #32 worn by Magic, Karl Malone, Shaquille O'Neal, OJ Simpson (prior to becoming a criminal), Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, etc.
