As I say above, the data were compiled on May 29, 2012, at which time Sporcle had 17,847 published quizzes. There's no easy way for me to update the data other than starting from scratch, so this will have to do for a while.
I've combined all different forms of the various words and phrases involved: singular and plural, capitalization differences, abbreviations, and sometimes spelling or subtle phrasing differences were all combined. because this process was manual it's almost certain I made some errors, and for that I apologize.
Some words were problematic. Warning: Spoilers follow. For example, "world" is a noun, but here it appears more often as an adjective (e.g., in phrases such as World Series, World Cup, and world metro). Or "name" is of course a noun, but it's also very commonly used as a verb ("Name the ..."). In some such cases I've tried to separate the uses, which I can do in cases such as "name", since when it's used as a noun it's usually as part of the phrase "baby names". But again, there are certainly errors or calls that could have gone a different way.
I've included bonus answers for many of the most common words that don't count (e.g., numbers, dates, letters, and quiz types), plus some other answers I think might be guessed but don't quite make the cut of 30 quiz titles. There are 23 such bonuses right now, but I may add more.
All in all, the quiz didn't turn out to be quite as neat and tidy as I had hoped, but I hope y'all enjoy it. As always, suggestions are invited. |
