	Full credit for the idea for this quiz should go to BigThing, who created the US States Without Looking quiz on which this was based. Creating it was a bit tricky because I couldn't see everything that I was doing, so there may well be errors; please let me know and I'll fix them right up. (I noticed on my test run that I'd actually misspelled Kyrgyzstan — I can only imagine the comments if I hadn't caught that one myself...) I've tried to allow all the de facto standard Sporcle abbreviations, plus a couple other helpful ones, but again, please tell me if there's something missing that you think ought to be there. For purposes of this quiz only the "standard" Sporcle countries are included; please, let's not have the England/Scotland/Wales are countries argument.

	Hmm. You're right that Gabon was missing (fixed now, thank you), but Niger isn't duplicated; must be something else, but I haven't found it yet.

	Works great, only thing I can think of is accepting "Rep of Congo", which works on most quizzes. Less standard, but "Bosnia"? :D

	Wow, this format sure does make you think. I found myself missing some odd ones, including one of the few countries I've actually visited, and another that I "typed mentally" without (evidently) employing the fingers.

	@nightknight: "rep congo" was already accepted, but I've added "rep of congo" because, well, pretty much why not, it's about the same thing. I didn't add "Bosnia", but I do think we as a Sporcle collective ought to think about what's appropriate on countries like that. The standard right now seems to be to require the whole name in most cases of two-part countries (e.g., Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis), but there are exceptions (St. Vincent, even without the Grenadines...) and I'm not sure there's a principled approach that explains it. For now, I've stuck with the Sporcle norms, pretty much, but I invite further discussion of the issue.

	I'm not sure what you mean — that players should have to type out the entire "Sao Tome [and] Principe"? If so, why? And what explains the difference between that and "St. Vincent [without mentioning the Grenadines]"? I know how the countries of the world handles it, I just don't see what the difference between those two cases is, except maybe length of name — and if that's it, "Bosnia [and] Herzegovina" is pretty long too. I guess the most ikely explanation is the St. Vincent (alone) really isn't justified in principle, but it got done that way and has now become accepted. But I'm hoping we can do better than that, and work out how things should be done. To my mind, what's important is that players demonstrate that they know the answer, and I think "Sao Tome" does that and should therefore be enough ... but I don't know whether that applies to "Bosnia", particularly because (at least in the United States), Bosnia (but not Herzegovina) got an enormous amount of press coverage for a while.

	In the real countries of the world quiz, Sao Tome and Principe must be typed out fully, so that is the standard on how the country shall be named. I don't know why St Vincent and the Grenadines is the only one that is shortened, but it could be due to it being very long. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the joining of two regions, Bosnia (in the North) and Herzegovina (in the far South). Bosnia only got media attention in the Bosnian War because it dealt with the ethnicity of Bosnians, rather than the political status of the country. Sao Tome and Principe is similarly a joining of the islands of Sao Tome and Principe.

	Xoloti, with respect to Sao Tome, essentially you're saying that's the way it is because that's the way it is. I don't agree that "technically" it should be that way (your first comment); really it is merely conventional, not technical. That it is a combination of two distinct regions does not necessarily imply that each need be typed out for the answer to be accepted; one perfectly sensible standard is that the answer should be accepted when it is clear what the quiz-taker means, and in this contex "Sao Tome" certainly does that (and the abbreviation STP), as would "Bosnia". By the way, the newly-recognized (by Sporcle) 197th country has been added.
