| @WarioBro: It's essentially a consent thing. The military dictatorship in Burma/Myanmar changed the name of the country but, since the people never chose that government, many people feel that they have no right to change the country's name. That, and the name `Burma' is still used by most people within the country. Similarly, Cambodia was known as Kampuchea during the dictatorship of Pol Pot and reverted to its former name of Cambodia after the withdrawal of Vietnamese troops, who had invaded to prevent the Khmer Rouge attacking Vietnam. Again, the name change from Cambodia to Kampuchea was not made with the people's consent; the reversion to Cambodia was by a democratic government. So, Sporcle is accepting the new and old names for Burma/Myanmar but not the illegitimate former name of Cambodia. |
