What about Philadelphia (ancient Syria)?

I can't find any evidence that it was named after that city, just that they both share the same etymology. If you could point me to evidence I'd be happy to include it!

It would be great if the third column said where the American city was as well.

Nice quiz. Maybe some bonus answers for cities named after regions in other countries, like Norfolk VA or Ontario CA?

I'd suggest that you make the states appear along with the answer. I just started naming British cities hoping some would be right and many where but I'd still like to know what state, like Portsmouth for instance.

@conrad - you certainly can, and i have no idea! i will change... @cmm0329 - i'm not sure what jersey city was named after, but i think the area was probably called jersey first. even if it wasn't, jersey isn't a british city but an island.

@theologystudent - Alexandria, VA is named after a family associated with the town, not the Egyptian city, though I won't deny that that might well have had something to do with the chosen form.
