Words to do with Christianity

It should be Jehovah's Witness not Jehova's.
Dec 5th, 2009 at 19:55 GMT
oops. thanks for pointing it out. should be fixed now.
Dec 6th, 2009 at 00:10 GMT
mormon OR church of latter day saints should be acceptable for church of jesus christ of latter day saints
Dec 6th, 2009 at 04:50 GMT
made the change. should be good now.
Dec 6th, 2009 at 23:36 GMT
Can you include stats for people who are agnostic or atheists?
Dec 6th, 2009 at 23:38 GMT
You've accepted "Mormons" but not "Mormon." I think you should also accept the singular answer to be consistent with the tenses of your other answers.
Dec 7th, 2009 at 03:50 GMT
made a couple of changes. Mormon is now accepted. And I have added the number of people who declared no religion. @Annie: I used the table from Statistics Canada and wrote the name of the religion and/or church exactly as they had it. Not to say that they can't be wrong, but I just assumed that it would be the correct way to identify said churches or religions. Will see if I can add more acceptable answers though.

I understand that you're working from the source, but atheists definitely do not believe they belong to the "religion" of atheism. I wouldn't call it a religion, so that was a little misleading.
Dec 7th, 2009 at 18:09 GMT
thanks your the best
Dec 7th, 2009 at 23:21 GMT
i've modified the game again a little, so that the answer "no religion/agnostic/atheist" appears as a bonus. it's still there, but does not completely count as a religion. i feel it's a good compromise.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 07:31 GMT
I'd lighten up the accepted answers a little. "Pentecostal" for instance should suffice for "Pentecostal Church".
Dec 12th, 2009 at 15:24 GMT
i thought it was. i went back to check and i had spelt it "pentacostal", that's why it was not working. should be working now!
Jan 7th, 2010 at 05:25 GMT
Harder than I thought. @amidabutsu I do that all the time with Pentecostal and I have to go back and change it!

You might consider adding more choices for aboriginal spirituality... I tried everything from "First Nations" to "Native American" to "American Indian" to "Cree" without any results. Also, I tried "Seventh Day Adventist" and didn't get Adventist, either.
Jan 8th, 2010 at 01:45 GMT
You should accept LDS for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as that is the proper term.
Jan 9th, 2010 at 14:25 GMT
Thanks again Sporcle for extending my education... hadn't heard of the United Church of Canada and now I know all about it!
Jan 11th, 2010 at 01:20 GMT
I'm surprised Methodists were even on the list; I thought they joined the United Church along with Moravians (and maybe one or two more). Also surprised there aren't 20,000 scientologists. But grateful.
Jan 13th, 2010 at 05:59 GMT
"Seventh-Day Adventist" or even "SDA" should work for Adventist. Also, this is somewhat obscure but important: Since 2005, the official, legal name of Jehovah's Witnesses in Canada is the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada. Jehovah's Witnesses should remain the displayed answer, but I would also accept "Watch Tower" and "Watchtower."
Jan 16th, 2010 at 10:12 GMT
Shouldn't at least one of "Episcopalian", "Episcopal", "Church of England" or "C of E" be acceptable for "Anglican? Just checking!
Jan 28th, 2010 at 20:53 GMT
you made me have to spell prebysterian... But this is a good quiz so I won't complain EXCEPT could you accept athiest as well as agnostic, it would be easier. But this is a divine quiz, thanks for putting it up!

Great game, surprised you don't have, open and closed Bretheren, Born again churches (Called Money churches here in New Zealand), Elims, Christadelphian, the Spiritualist church, Shintoism, Jedi and or a category for cults like Hermes far eastern shining and Scientology).
Feb 14th, 2010 at 17:59 GMT
thanks everyone for the comments. i've made some changes to reflect them.

popping by to commend the quizmaker for being so open to critique as well as for a very enjoyable quiz.
Feb 27th, 2010 at 22:21 GMT
well, thank you, that's very nice of you. i'm glad you liked the game :)
Mar 16th, 2010 at 21:34 GMT
Perhaps accept 7th Day Adventist for Adventist?
Mar 16th, 2010 at 23:21 GMT
Strictly speaking it should be Roman Catholic, since the word catholic means universal and can cover other denominations - whereas the Roman branch has the Pope as its head.
Mar 22nd, 2010 at 11:46 GMT
the answers do make the difference between roman catholic and ukrainian catholic. thought i'd let you know :)
Apr 4th, 2010 at 23:33 GMT
Nice quiz. A little strange that there are Greek Orthodox and Ukrainian Orthodox but no Russian Orthodox- maybe Canada has more Ukrainians than Russians?
Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:34 GMT
Sikhism is the religion while those who follow it are Sikhs, please make the necessary change
Apr 9th, 2010 at 20:37 GMT
@Bulletchewer6 - Weirdly, Ukrainians make up almost 4% of the Canadian population (Russians, less than 2%).

I'm surprised Bahai wasn't covered by Statistics Canada. According to their website they have 30,000 followers in Canada. (http://www.ca.bahai.org/canada)

I think the non-religious, et al. should be included in the quiz proper. While we do not consider ourselves a religion, we are an important demographic (not to mention the second largest belief-system demographic in Canada: just about as large as the next two combined).
Sep 22nd, 2010 at 05:44 GMT
Also, can't you accept 'animist/animism', 'aboriginal', 'native american', 'indigenous' or 'inuit' for 'aboriginal spirituality'? Outside of Canada, the names 'First Nations' and 'Aboriginal' are not widely used.

Results are somewhat glitched. It says I didn't get Islam or Aboriginal and that I got Mennonite; none of which is true.
Oct 1st, 2011 at 23:44 GMT
I had no idea the Salvation Army was a church and not just a charitable organization
Dec 23rd, 2011 at 02:38 GMT
My answers are also glitched. I think it shows the same number of right answers, but some I got are shown as missed and vice-versa. Also, I can't believe more people got Sikhism than Hinduism and Islam! Not complaining, I'm Sikh!
