Great quiz! although Colombo is really debatable because although cote divoire and sri lanka are debatable, because in both cases, they made a declaration of a new capital, but really haven't followed up with moving the most of the actual functions of a capital to the new location.

I always thought Monte Carlo was just another name for Monaco, thanks for enlightening me!

Monaco is a city state, the only city in Monaco is, you guessed it, Monaco! Monte Carlo is just a district, not an actual city. It would be like claiming that Manhattan is the largest city of the state of New York.

The criteria here seem a bit unclear. Jerusalem is the largest city proper in Israel, Tel Aviv the largest metro. But for Sudan, Omdurman is part of the Khartoum metro, which is the largest in the country. Either Tel Aviv shouldn't be on there or Omdurman shouldn't.

I made this quiz back in February and learned that it doesn't work because there aren't definite answers. i.e. the cases pointed out above by johnlk of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and Omdurman and Khartoum as well as Manila and Quezon City. Population can be counted in several different ways, and different sources will have different data, so while it's a great idea for a quiz, it doesn't work. Yet shockingly Sporcle published a different version of this quiz: http://www.sporcle.com/games/GeoExpert/largestcitybycapital.

Palau should be on here as well. Koror is their former capital, and it's larger than Melekeok or Ngerulmud or whatever their capital is this week.

Dogana is the largest city in San Marino, Serravalle is it's municipality, but Dogana is a city in it's own right, just not yet a municipality. Montecarlo is a district of Monaco, which is a city state.
