| Dear ESPN, 89th Overall seems a high for Derrick Favors, he averaged 8.8ppg and 6.5rpg in 21.3mpg and has a decent PER with 17.05. Sure, over 48 minutes he would average about 18ppg and 14rpg but in the real world, the production over 20 minutes will not always be increased at the same rate if becoming a 40 minute a game starter. I remember when Speights was getting hype because he had a high PER; however he was playing in a limited role and never developed into a player who could hold that high PER as a 40mpg starter. Derrick Favors is on a team with a very talented front court, AL Jefferson, Paul Millsap, and newly acquired Marvin Williams unless the Jazz decide to rebuild by trading away their marquee players, to avoid eternity as the 8th seed in the western conference, players like Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter have to fight for minutes. Unless a trade of or an injury to Paul Millsap or Al Jefferson occurs, Derrick Favors will continue to be used in a support role averaging about 20 mpg and not even have the opportunity to be a breakout star. Giving Favors the score of 89th best in the NBA is more of a projection than an observation, their are more proven basketball players in the 100-125 range that can produce at a steady rate. Derrick Favors will not ever have the opportunity to become a breakout player in the league and be a top 100 or better player unless the Jazz trade their veterans and rebuild around their young pieces like Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward, and Alec Burke; which would allow Derrick Favors to be the go-to target on a young team or if they consolidate their young talent of the previous stated players and trade them for a top-tier point guard if they try for a deep playoff run around Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap; which could allow Derrick Favors a new home to flourish as the starting PF for an NBA franchise because right now...he is merely a backup with loads of potential. |
