You don't do many crossword puzzles, do you? "Arid" and "sere" are both missing.

Also, "snakes," "scorpions," "cactus," "mud frogs," and almost everything on your list doesn't describe a desert. Look up "describes" in a dictionary. Here's a hint: it has to be an adjective.
