| @chriskotx. That's the great thing about the Beatles...they have so many great songs that it's impossible for everyone to agree on their 100 best songs! No other band comes close, maybe you could argue about the top 50 for some groups, but even the last songs on this list are great. Some of my favorite Beatles songs aren't even included because they have so many.
Also, I believe that the list is meant to only include songs written by the Beatles, not their covers. So that disqualifies Twist and Shout. Ironically, Rolling Stone ranked "I Saw Her Standing There" as the 139th greatest song of all time (for any group) in 2004, so the musicians and critics polled this time were clearly different.
And for what it's worth, I agree with you and think that Birthday, Michelle, Lovely Rita, and Obla di Obla da (even though it can be annoying as hell) should be on the list. But I love Helter Skelter, and it has to be included because it was so influential. |
