	@Brandon: I think the father back you go, the easier it is to look objectively. I even think Finding Nemo is a stretch. I'm willing to bet Wall-E becomes more of a classic. I'd put Watership Down or The Secret of NIMH above Nemo, for that matter.

	Brandon, technically it's 2 from the previous ten years. Romantic comedies these days are pretty much remakes of old movies. The Western and SciFi genres have pretty much dried up as the allure of explosions and sex has made both genres almost impossible to enjoy in terms of serious commitment to the genre. Granted, both solid Westerns and SciFi are more heavy dialogue and plot than many recent movies. People don't like being preached to (some old SciFi) or slow plot development (some old SciFi and Westerns). If you want new and inventive movies, you have to either hope the old guard leaves Hollywood or check out indie films. Otherwise it's story remakes galore (horror genre). It's too expensive to try to be new and different in Hollywood.

	Cigarette: I totally agree about Watership down and secret of NIMH, they are brilliant movies. As for Wall-E I didn't find it that great. I'm more miffed Dumbo and Robin Hood aren't on there, they both kick Shrek's arse imo.

	"Birth of a Nation" WAS a great movie, with more influence on future movies than possible any other in the history of film. To ignore that due to it not conforming to modern sensibilities is absurd and childish.

	I know that a lot of the movies on AFI's lists are on there because of "the influence" they've had on future movies, but their lists really do overlook any recent films. Sure, there's a few exceptions on the animation lists, but the only movie to make the Top 100 movies from the entire decade is Fellowship of the Ring? Really?

	Obviously, Birth of a Nation is horrifically racist, but technically it was amazingly influential, and it belongs on any list. What AFI did when it revised the list - taking off BoaN and putting on Intolerance, which is generally considered to be not as good, seems like mindless PCness. And I'm Jewish, but I certainly would not object to seeing one of the Riefenstahl documentaries on a list of top documentaries, because they're amazing pieces of art. Unlike Triumph of the Will or Birth of a Nation, Mein Kampf is not a work of art - it's an awful, turgid mess that nobody anywhere has ever thought was at all good.

	@DonnyB: The pluralization "dwarves" was invented by JRR Tolkien (author of Lord of the Rings) to distinguish his creations from the little people commonly known as "dwarfs".

	While it was obvious with Malcolm McDowell as the clue, how can 'A Clockwork Orange be considered a science fiction story? Sure, there are elements of the plot which deal with science but that is not the theme of the story.

	@plixgirl: TO reiterate comments from above, The Good the Bad and the Ugly was made in Italy, therefore would be ineligible on AFI's list of Greatest American films.

	This AFI show aired in June of 2008. and all the previous shows were also on in June. This year there is nothing on their website to indicate a 2009 top 100 show. Anyone know what gives?

	"Terminator 2: Judgement Day" over the original "Terminator"? Really?!? The scientific study of the brain washing effect makes "A Clockwork Orange" very much a Sci-Fi movie. I have a hard time calling "Star War"s sci-fi. There is no exploration of any scientific principle in those movies (Yes they travel through space but nothing advancing the science aspect of it.) It is more of a fantasy movie that takes place in space.
