| I hate the "orderedness" these lists give off. Every one of the Hope/Crosby films is at least as funny as Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (by the way, not very funny), but instead they just get a token shrug with Road to Morocco. The same goes for WC Fields, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and modern comic greats like Woody Allen and Billy Wilder - even their minor stuff is funnier than most of the stuff here, but they can't just put 10 Woody Allen films, 9 Billy Wilder films, and 33 silent comedies and call it a day.
And then on top of that they give so much weight to the film's "importance" that they end up making ridiculous claims like Singing in the Rain is funnier than This Is Spinal Tap or Manhattan is funnier than Bananas, Sleeper, or Take the Money and Run. Those films may be *better*, but funnier?
Also, the hint for #52 should be Greta Garbo, noone's ever going to guess it with Melchior Lengyel. |
