Thanks clevin, I've made the correction.

I had 8:53 left

Way way way way way way way way way way way way way tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 28th, 2010 at 10:30 GMT
Definitely too much time. It only took 45 seconds. Maybe give 3 minutes. If you know it, then there's no way it would take that long. On a another note, is it sad that I'm 27 years old and I still love the Golden Girls?
May 28th, 2010 at 13:13 GMT
Alright, I've adjusted the clock to 3 minutes.
Jun 8th, 2010 at 06:01 GMT
Anyone familiar with the song could easily do this in less than a minute. Three minutes is still way too much time.
Aug 29th, 2010 at 14:32 GMT
@JaxBored - why would it be sad to be 27 and love the Golden Girls? It's not Dora the Explorer. It would be sad to be 27 and NOT love the Golden Girls.

The theme song "Thank You For Being A Friend" was actually a top 40 hit for Andrew Gold in 1978, when the Golden Girls were still pre-menopausal. Gold had a few other hits, including "Lonely Boy" and the theme songs from Animal House & Tootsie. His mother was Marni Nixon, who provided the singing voices for Natalie Wood in West Side Story and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.

woo got them all!
Jun 4th, 2011 at 00:15 GMT
Only took me 44 seconds to get them all. I'd really recommend cutting the time down to a minute (2 minutes max). When 2/3 of people ace your quiz, you know it's too easy.

Love my Golden Girls! They are part of my extended family just in case anyone wanted to know!....just kidding.

It's heartening that so many people got this quiz right.

I'm somewhat ashamed at my perfect score.

There is sure to be something very important and profound that I once knew and forgot because THIS SONG IS OCCUPYING THAT PART OF MY BRAIN to the point where I 100%ed without any effort. College physics courses? Gone. Golden Girls theme song? Playing in my head right now. Thanks a lot.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 15:53 GMT
Embarrassed to admit how quickly I blazed through this one.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 16:01 GMT
People seem to have largely forgotten, but this "theme" was first off a top 40 song. "Thank You For Being A Friend" by Andrew Gold reached #25 in 1978, seven years before The Golden Girls debuted. Andrew also had a top 10 hit with Lonely Boy and contributed background vocals and played on many of Linda Ronstadt's biggest hits.
Andrew's mother was Marni Nixon, whom you've probably never heard of, but if you've seen West Side Story or My Fair Lady, that's Marni's voice you hear on the songs, not Natalie Wood or Audrey Hepburn.
Now, on with the countdown...

It's sad that only one of the girls is left...
Feb 21st, 2012 at 16:44 GMT
Golden girls was like Sex and the City with OAPs. In fact I bet Kim Cattrall is older now than the youngest Golden Girl was when that series started.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 16:57 GMT
I finished this in 30 seconds. I have wasted my life.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 16:57 GMT
@listyguy: At least it's the best one. Rose was such a sweet-hearted, ditzy, yet demure lady, but Betty White is like everyone's favorite grandmother who can shock you be firing off a dirty joke that would make Howard Stern blush. I hope she lives to be 100.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 17:05 GMT
I'm 21 and I love the Golden Girls. I have since I was 12. Sadly I couldn't spell "confidant" or didn't know the second verse.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 17:27 GMT
rockgolf: Glad you brought that up. I was going to if nobody else did, but you did it better than I would have, with more information (I didn't know he was Marni Nixon's son, for example). And everyone else: cool it on the "too much time" rants, 'kay?
Feb 21st, 2012 at 17:35 GMT
I forgot that this Andrew Gold gem was the theme for the golden Girls. good song.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 18:00 GMT
@rockgolf: and his father was the Oscar winning composer Ernest Gold(Exodus) who also wrote the themes for 'on the beach' and 'It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world'

Embarrased by a perfect score? I'm 26 and super proud of my perfect score. I love this show. It's so edgy for an 80's, 90's show. The cast is hilarious. Thank god for TVtropolis for all the reruns.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 19:01 GMT
@Happ_Hazzard - You are correct. McClanahan was 51 when the show started airing. Cattrall is 55.
Feb 21st, 2012 at 20:46 GMT
Thank you for being... an awesome Sporcler and making this quiz. We miss you, Bea, Rue and Estelle!
Feb 22nd, 2012 at 00:23 GMT
"...Marni Nixon, whom you've probably never heard of..." I think plenty of us know Marni Nixon. This is not necessarily very esoteric knowledge, and even if it were, I think that's a condescending way to word it for a community of educated people like the Sporclers.
Feb 22nd, 2012 at 17:52 GMT
Started watching the shows again after all these years. I'd forgotten how great the writing was and how well they played their roles. Oh, yeah - I got all of them right!!
Feb 23rd, 2012 at 06:44 GMT
Could've sworn "confidant" was "comforter."
Feb 24th, 2012 at 15:31 GMT
Thirteen and got all the words. Oh yeah... I'm embarrassing myself while writing this, aren't I?
Feb 24th, 2012 at 20:43 GMT
I'm with dlauthor on this; there's so much I can't remember, but this song refuses to be forgotten. Just be to nitpicky, but you need a semicolon after "true" and a comma after the last "and." A song this perversely catchy shouldn't have run-ons.
Feb 25th, 2012 at 06:38 GMT
@Oddish: Based on the votes you're getting, you're probably correct. Probably about 80-90% of the general population wouldn't recognize Nixon, but that's apparently not true of the Sporcle population.
Mar 17th, 2012 at 00:41 GMT
WHY do I know this? Oh yea been watching it since I was 9 years old.
Jul 13th, 2012 at 20:32 GMT
Wow, I have to agree with all of the other commenters... very sad how easily I could rattle this off with over 2 minutes to spare and yet I can sit and look at a geography quiz for 10 minutes and get something like 50/190.
Aug 8th, 2012 at 05:35 GMT
ok haven't watched the golden girls in years. the only reason i remember the words is because of the family guy live in las vegas cd where brian and stewie sing a tv theme song medley lol
Jan 7th, 2013 at 13:57 GMT
I also used to think it was "comforter" when I was younger, but realized what it actually was the first time I saw the show as an adult. Another childhood mistake I made was thinking it said "and the heart attack would say". I have no idea how I got that, but it totally fits the tempo.
Mar 8th, 2013 at 22:04 GMT
I'm scared about how easy that was for me...
