I understand that there were many menageries around the world before the above came into existence, but these are the oldest establishments acknowledged as “modern” zoos. Please leave comments.

You should just give the country, too easy with the city. You can just copy the city right on over.

The zoo of Buenos Aires was opened in 1888. The Wikipedia page (Buenos Aires Zoo) lists some sources (in Spanish and in English) that confirm that date.

The Jardin des Plantes zoo (Paris) was created in the late 1700's. Central Park (New York) zoo and Philadelphia Zoo both opened in the 1870's.

Buenos Aires,Central Park, and Philadelphia were added as answers. I added Jardin des Plantes as a bonus because its main function is as a botanical garden, but it did include a small zoo. Thanks for all the help.
