Source? I'm a little bit surprised that less than 2% of the EU speaks Arabic even as a second language...

I think this only includes European languages

You need a source and, judging by the scores, there is too much time.

Please reduce the width of the two leftmost columns and increase the width of the third column.

Funny how Catalan is least guessed and is the only one that doesn't correspond with what is thought of as a country's main national language. I had a feeling that it would be there though.

Definitely needs a source, and if it's only considering European languages, should say so in the notes! Interesting, though.

Moldova is not an EU country. It is listed as one after the language "Romanian".

How fluent does one need to be? Dutch is spoken as a first language or a strong second language by about 23 million people in Belgium and the Netherlands. There's probably not many speakers outside those two countries, but I find it hard to believe that there's more Russian speakers, when the combined population of the Baltics, the only countries in the EU where a sizeable portion of the population speaks Russian, is less than 7 million. Is this just counting anyone who took even a year of the language in school? And where are these supposed Russian speakers in Greece coming from?

Nice idea for a quiz, thanks. I think we'd all love to see a source though. Might put our minds and queries at rest!

@chriskotx: Slovak is the language spoken in Slovakia. Slavic is an entire branch of Indo-European languages, including Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian, Croatian, Old Slavonic and others.

Hamburger has a point, Moldova isn't an EU member state. @rca: Ukrainian probably doesn't show up because Ukraine isn't in the EU either, and Ukrainian isn't spoken much elsewhere.

@HiddenPalace: It's not at all funny that, as you say, Catalan is least guessed and the only one that isn't thought of as a national language. I would imagine most Sporclers do this quiz the same way: by running through the countries of Europe, in which case they're not going to think of Catalonia. (I did, but I'm a linguist [she says modestly, patting herself on the back].)

I believe Catalan is the everyday language of Andorra, though.

This is a good quiz but I think someone mistaked bulgarian with slovakian. Catalan and bulgarian (no listed) have more speakers than slovak. Arab should have many immigrant speakers but more than 2%? I doubt this. Ukrainian or some other european languages can't be in the list because it's only about European Union languages. I have seen this list before so it was really easy to me. Catalan is the national language of catalans like me. Andorra doesn't matter much for this quiz, its population is tiny and outside the European Union. So catalan is the most spoken unofficial language of the European Union.
