	Zalagreensbury - are you confusing Jerry Maguire with Magnolia? If you thought Jerry Maguire was one screwed up character, I can't even imagine what you'd say about his character in Magnolia.

	Yeah Jerry Maguire isn't half as screwed up as some of the other characters in this list. Hannibal Lecter and Max Cady tear him up on the messed up characters.

	Biggest robbery on this list... 1998, Edward Norton should have won over Roberto Benigni, especially after getting screwed in 1996 when he lost to Cuba Gooding Jr. (WHAT?!) for supporting actor.

	I was so sure of my last-second guess of Tom Berenger for "The Field." Then I looked it up and saw that I was confusing it with "At Play in the Fields of the Lord," which came out the following year. So between those two and "Field of Dreams," there were three big movies within two years with "Field" in the name. Good job, Hollywood.

	Mostly the ones I missed was because I haven't seen the film, but for 'The Crying Game' I was convinced at first it was Jaye Davisdon (tried various spellings) who was nominated but in the best supporting actor category, and then for some reason it must have been Aidan Quinn or Gabriel Byrne and so I offer my humble apologies to Stephen Rea who indeed was in the film and a very fine actor!

	I'm not confusing anything I thought the Jerry McGuire character was a lot more versatile than the one in Magnolia--his character in Magnolia sort of reminds me of his loony-self nowadays...too close for comfort lol not a big acting stretch.

	@dougbutcher: Tim Robbins was the lead actor in the way that Paul Newman was the lead actor in Butch Cassidy--he shared the lead with another actor. And they went with Morgan Freeman for the nomination. Can't remember ever seeing two same-sex leads nominated from the same movie.

	@Cat Girl and mattycakes345 - Amadeus is correct and 1935's Mutiny on the Bounty had all three leading men nominated for Best Actor (Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, and Franchot Tone.) None of them won the award, though.

	"Thelma & Louise" - Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon both nominated Lead. "Sleuth" - Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier both nominated Lead. "Terms of Endearment" - Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger both nominated Lead. It's not unusual at all.
