	bostnboy always says stupid things, and this isn't an exception. What do you call every college player in pretty much every sport? Or even kids in sports clubs... I still call them athletes (I still voted LaCosaNostra up, though :P).

	Doesn't matter. You said anyone not playing at the highest level isn't an athlete. Thus, until a player makes it to the bigs he is not an athlete by your definition. QED.

	The reason that there are separate leagues for women is because men excel in sports more due to nature and evolution. There is a reason a 16 year old isn't allowed to play in an 8 year old league. It's because they are better physically. The 8 year olds cant help that they haven't hit puberty yet. Similarly, women can't help that they didn't receive a Y chromosome. Although, that is no reason to say that women aren't athletes. The Webster definition of an athlete is "a person who is skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina." Billions of women around the globe train for and play sports, and saying that they are not athletes is just plain sexist.

	@bostnboy3...besides the fact that you clearly have no idea what the word "athlete" means, how about Kelly Kulick? She won an athletic event at its highest possible level against open competition. So even there, in your extremely narrow view of what an athlete is and is not, there is an example of a woman who fits your bill as an athlete, refuting your point that no women are athletes.

	Yes, women can be athletes. However, I challenge anyone to sit through a WNBA game in its entirety. It's painful. I see his point, I just think he's doing a poor job making it. And NASCAR drivers and bodybuilders are not athletes. I'll catch hell for saying it but hear me out. They both take extraordinary skill, but so does being an excellent book keeper or chess player or photographer. That does not make them athletes.

	bostonboy3, the physical difference between an African American male and a white male is MUCH smaller than the physical difference between a man and a woman. All races of men have a much higher level of testosterone than women. And I would like to know what your definition of an athlete is, because it obviously is different than Mr. Webster's.
