| Here's the funny thing: I was at Veterans' Stadium, even keeping score, when ('91 Phillies answer) through the Immaculate Inning. I didn't realize it at the time, and I doubt more than a handful in the stands did. No one on the field acted as if anything strange happened (I believe the Phils were losing pretty bad at the time.) A few innings later, there was a short blurb on the auxiliary message board that _______ had just become the ~20th player to strike out the side on nine pitches, and we gave him some scattered applause. Then everyone forgot abut it. Someday when Immaculate Innings are as publicized and celebrated as perfect games and unassisted triple plays, I'm going to tell my grandkids I saw one. They'll yawn. Anyway, at least I got the answer right on Sporcle. |
