Very, very, very interesting quiz. Spectacular idea. One suggestion: note that the teams listed are the teams the players were on
when they held the lead
, not for their entire careers. I missed Mize (disclosure: I almost certainly would've missed him anyway) because I was trying to think of every lifetime Yankee.

just when i thought that all the good quiz ideas were all done - i thought nobody hit HRs before Ruth, at least that what it seems in the media.

Great quiz. Delahanty is the only one I missed that really bothers me... I spelled it DelahantEy. Forgot Brouthers as well. I got everyone from Wagner on. It's a shame no one knows who Cravath is. He held the single season homerun record before Ruth. Pretty good for a guy who wasn't a full time player in the majors until he was in his early 30's.

Dwight Evans retired as a Baltimore Oriole, not with Boston.

Most clever. I'm going to do a similar one, but for career hits.

Here's the one for career hits: http://www.sporcle.com/games/DJC_83/activehits. Great idea, WCR!

@barnztormre, Evans played for Boston at the time he was the HR leader. He obviously got passed by the time he joined the Orioles.

Great, great quiz. I might suggest you consistently clarify all the early "Boston" and "Philadelphia" teams with which team you mean. Could also use a year update on Griffey -- zero homers and counting in 2010!

@pita: I stand corrected. BTW, now that Griffy has retired the quiz needs updating. :)

@jsftrey - nobody did hit very many home runs before Ruth. "Home Run" Baker hit 96 home runs in his career. Gavvy Cravath became active home run leader in 1918 with 98 career home runs to that point. Honus Wagner had 101 career home runs. It might have had something to do with the size and shape of parks before the 1920s, but home runs were just really, really rare before Ruth.

@Kicking222: I added a note that should clarify your point. @barnztormre: I updated the quiz through 2010.
