The fact that Atlanta has one airport makes that passenger stat that much more mindblowing. That's 170 passengers every minute of every day, 365 days a year.

You could probably reduce the time by a few minutes, but that's not a problem. Good quiz

And they want to expand London Heathrow. That's dedication to keeping your #1 spot on a Sporcle quiz. I expect that's why they want to do it...

Why oh why would I forget New York. What have I done with myself?

I'm feeling my age: tried Buenos Aires, Rio, etc. for South America, and Beirut, Baghdad, Tehran, Tel Aviv, etc. for the Middle East, and forgot to think of Dubai or to try São Paulo.

I tried every major Western European city. Except Amsterdam. *Bashes head against keyboard*

What really shocked me was not to find a single Indian city. It's hard to believe that cities such as Phoenix or Denver have more air traffic than Delhi or Mumbai. I guess India still needs to develop quite a lot...
Mar 5th, 2013 at 19:33 GMT
@osasunaitor: There are probably a few reasons for that. Flying is still cheaper in the US so many can afford it. While Phoenix & Denver are much smaller than Delhi or Mumbai, they are significant hubs for certain airlines & therefore account for a lot of connecting traffic. I wouldn't be too surprised if the Indian cities finished ahead of them in terms of origin/destination traffic though (but maybe not even)...

Nice for my city (but you knew that) to be in the Top 10!
Mar 8th, 2013 at 11:56 GMT
The list is wrong, it's missing several major worldwide hubs: Hong Kong airport, one of the worlds largest airports and the busiest cargo airport, handles as well about 50 million passengers a year. Singapore airport, another gateway connecting Europe, Australia and the Far East, handles about 45 million passengers. Whilst Incheon airport in Seoul handles about 35 million, and that's not even mentioning Seoul's domestic airport.

Noticed comments above mentioning Atlanta, Phoenix and Sao Paulo, but they don't appear in the answers. Has someone been fiddling around with the answers, because it's all now wrong!!
Mar 10th, 2013 at 11:14 GMT
Well this is wrong. According to official reports, Dubai had 57,684,550 passengers in the year ending 2012, and is forecast to hit 70 million in 2013. Im not sure where you get your facts from but it looks very biased towards the US. Abu Dhabi will also be high, as will Delhi, Hong Kong and Beijing.

HELP!!! SOMEONE HAS RUINED MY QUIZ!!! This quiz has changed and I didn't do it. The answers have been changed, and the source has been changed. The new source has different statistics to the old one, and doesn't include cities with only one airport. If you know anything about this, please tell me. I am devastated that my quiz has been ruined.

@Videomaniac29, Sporcle Admins changed this quiz. We have restored the original data.

Of the cities on that list, Jakarta is the only one without a direct flight to the top city.
