Please note: you need to enter both the city and nickname to get credit. Teams that were created via relocation are not included on this quiz.

Cleveland Barons were a relocation of the California Seals. Pretty interesting history when you learn that the Barons owners then merged their team with the then Minnesota North Stars only to attempt to move the team to San Jose, get denied, sell the team to the rest of the shareholders who then moved to Dallas and then they bought a franchise in San Jose.

I knew the Rockies became the Devils, but never heard of the origin of the franchise.

Do we really have to write "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim"? Just the Anaheim Ducks isn't enough?

They weren't called the Ducks when they came in the league. The name changed a few years ago. If you type Anaheim Mighty Ducks, it accepts it.

Wow! Who's taking this quiz?! Nobody I've come across knows who the Blue Jackets are! I can't believe they're highest-picked team!

How did people get some of these relocated teams before the Sabres or other established teams?

amkirby -- the whole point is to test knowledge of NHL history. Since so many of these teams have relocated, knowing the city is important.

Got the Seals because it was my father's childhood teams... I've heard the same stories about them hundreds of times. XD Also pretty proud I got the Scouts!

Man, I knew they were the Golden Seals at one point! I'm only 23 so I learned that through just basic NHL history so didn't realize they entered the league as just the Seals. Piece of constructive advice: put that you need to get the whole franchise name in the note that Sporcle allows. I love that you have to do it but it might save a little confusion for those who don't want to be spoiled by a comment.

i liked the fact that you had to type in the full franchise name, and sknapp i too only knew of the california golden seals im only 20... but all in all i thought this was great quiz and i dont see anything wrong with it because the author made it clear that he wanted expansion teams not relocated teams

I almost missed the Capitals too. Good quiz with a good time limit.
