Ya gotta love the Weekly World News. What other paper can have a front page story claiming the world is sure to end in 60 days and still offer five-year subscriptions?

Fun quiz!!! I made the mistake of going category to category... Wondering if it would have made more sense to go across and do all the happys, all the news, and all the years... That way I get that word stuck in my head and I might have gotten 1 or 2 more... Most of the ones I missed, wouldn't have gotten anyway... Happy New Yearssss :)

- UnitedEditors is just that; a way for all the Sporcle editors to collaborate on quizzes that are better for the joined participation. Sometimes one of us will have an idea that needs fleshing out or brainstorming and sometimes we just want to work together.

i find it amazing that no matter where i go or what im doing i have to hear or read somebody taking a shot at Fox News...Whats wrong with saying Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah? Why do we have to be generic? Roughly 85% of Americans fall within one of those two categories.

I can't help but believe that Fox News is merely a money-making scheme for the owners of Fox. I'll bet ya Bill O'Reilly is really a communist-loving, hip hop-listening, closet fan of Barack Obama who merely attempts to attract liberal viewers by way of outrageous antics. Either that or there are A LOT of racist, close minded people in the U.S. for Fox News to be a moneymaker.

I suggested adding the Fox News comment to the original clue, because I was sure if the clue read "Generic inoffensive December greeting" some yahoo (lower case) would say "Well, I'm offended. This country was founded as a Christian nation..." and the comments would go downhill.
The parenthetical addition was not a "shot" at FOX News. It was a fair representation of their stand until recently. Bill O'Reilly in particular pushed a number of major retailers, including "Walmart, Macys and all the big stores" to stop greeting customers with "Happy holidays" and instead use "Merry Christmas". You don't have to believe me. You can hear it from Bill himself:
http://mediamatters.org/research/200612010011
However, this year, they changed their mind:
http://www.foxnewsinsider.com/2010/12/24/happy-holidays-from-fox-news/ so the comment is no longer true. At least till next year.

Nice cliched potshot at Fox News. They actually dare to take a stand and say Merry Christmas (gasp!) and you have to let the world know you think that's terrible. Shame on you. I'm not even doing your little quiz. Oh, and Merry Christmas!

I enjoyed the quiz, I didn't enjoy the unneccessary shot at fox news. I make it a point to always say Merry Christmas. No one I've ever said that to has ever been offended. Others often say Happy Holidays to me. I am never offended. A stupid argument born out of an overly PC society.

I say Happy Holidays from mid-November through January...It can include anything from Thanksgiving, New Years, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Ramadan, Bodhi Day and Festivus. However on Christmas I do say Merry Christmas because that's what day it is
