Did uncommonly poorely on this one. I must badly have overestimated the size of several cities here. Expected to see ie Taichung, Tucson, Torreon and Trivandrum. Got 2 of the "almost there" bonuses too, but just 10 real ones.

Your quizzes have done a great job of reminding me that even though I know what the countries and capitals of Asia are I know absolutely nothing about Asian geography...only 20 more to go. Nice to see that you got a couple of 'em published.

Anybody care to share their strategy for these quizzes? I've tried typing out "ta", "te", "th" etc. and seeing how that jogs my memory, but that hasn't worked that well. I've also tried going country to country and thinking of the major cities, but that takes way too long. Is there a systematic way of thinking about this that doesn't take too much time?

the "T" quiz, stands for "tough"! Actually, even being familiar with chinese cities is not sufficient, apparently, because of so many alternate transcriptions.

Here's where being Taiwanese comes in handy haha. Got all of the ones in Taiwan (I've been to them all too), and all of the ones in China except Taizhou. Missed Turin and Tel Aviv though.

9 out of 20, ouch! Mind was blank for the first four minutes. Got two bonuses (Tripoli and ___? I forget). I too tried Toulouse. Only misses I kick myself for are Tampa, Torino, Taichung, Tainan, and Toluca (well, not so much for the last three, as they wouldn't spring to mind, but I've visited all five).

Tacoma has nowhere near 3 million people. It has less than 200,000.

vote me down if you think i'm being obnoxious, but aren't these quizzes non-front-page-worthy (and not very fun) when such a significant portion of the answers are mid-sized Chinese cities that most people (even Sporclers) have never heard of? The fact that I got 6, yet finished in the 90th percentile, kinda proves my point.

I've been to Japan twice and missed Tokyo. Embarassing... But I got 6 and still ended up in the 91st percentile! This was so much harder than I thought it would be!

There is no way that Tel Aviv proper has anywhere close to 2,275,000 people. The actual population is only around 300,000; Jerusalem, Israel's largest city, has 700,000. This quiz must be including all of the surrounding suburbs.

@acool, hence the title of the quiz being metro areas and not cities, if it were cities Tokyo wouldn't even make the list.

As an American social studies teacher, I think that this type of tough quiz is what Sporcle is all about. Just because many of us don't immediately think of each of these cities, doesn't mean that they're insignificant. Remember, millions of people live in these metro areas! Consider this Sporcle an excuse/opportunity to look up a place like Taoyuan - the "Peach Garden" of Taiwan!

I tend to think of Tijuana as part of the San Diego Metropolitan Area, but alright, fair enough.
