I had a brain fart by not typing Singapore. I love these letter quizzes, though. I definitely hope you continue with them.

Shenzhen is 310th, but Shenyang was an oversight on my part. It's been added, and poor Stockholm has been demoted to bonus-answer status.

There are now even more bonus answers, based on cities that people might think were answers but missed the cut. If you have more bonus ideas, comment!

Sacramento and San Jose (if it is not considered part of San Francisco area) could be bonuses, as well as St Petersburg/Tampa, Florida.

I added Sacramento and San Jose, but I think St Petersburg is too much of a stretch.

Sydney and Singapore - bad misses on my part. Got 12/20, did not deserve more. As for Shenzen, Wikipedia gives to understand its urban area has a population of 4 million, so it probably should make this list... But yeah, these alphabetical metro quizzes are nice!

Since this is the second time its been brought up, I think Shenzhen deserves a bonus. And thanks for playing, there should be a new one of these relatively soon!

according to some sources, shenzhen is ranked 28th in the world...depends on how these numbers are being calculated.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how San Francisco can be higher on the list than San Diego and San Jose, considering that it is normally considered to be smaller than both those cities. Is it really Oakland?

St. Paul???? According to your link it is listed as #135...

I was hesitant about St Paul, since when making these quizzes I have just one name represent each metro area (for example, Dallas instead of Dallas-Fort Worth). Since I've already used Minneapolis in the past and it is the bigger city, that area would go under 'M.' Still, if anyone wants to argue the point further I'll be happy to listen. @Chocolatl, this is by metro area and SF definitely has the largest metro of the three.

I don't get these city rankings. On one Sporcle quiz, I'm pretty sure Seoul was listed as the biggest city in the world. Here it's the 23rd biggest.

these rankings are extremely out of date. Shenzhen is a bonus answer, with a population of 1.3 million... in reality Shenzhen has a population of over 8 million. =/

Well, duh, missed the city of my birth, but in my defense, I *know* the population of San Francisco is only about 750,000 - the "metro area" part of the quiz didn't really ping with me. I'm not sure what all was included to get it from 750,000 to 3.36 million.

The metro area covers the counties of San Francisco itself, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin. Populations here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_census_statistical_areas

For everyone complaining about the source, yeah, sometimes citymayors isn't the most reliable but what other good source is there for this sort of thing? And citymayors is pretty well established on Sporcle, it's used in quite a lot of quizzes. Anyway, another published quiz, very exciting! Keep watching for more User Created games in this series, they're coming!

HPZ: I typed in San Jose expecting Costa Rica, but got the bonus answer instead. Also, I had no idea there were that many people in the Dominican Republic. Didn't even cross my mind to enter that one. Still fun, though!
