Great quiz. One might argue that the hyphens in Port-au-Prince make it count as one word. And shouldn't Washington DC be included?

@deadperson, my source has it nowhere near that; metro area figures can differ by a lot. @BigThing, yeah, I was on the fence about Port-au-Prince but decided to keep it. As for Washington DC, it was left out of Multiple-Word US Cities because the "DC" is technically where the city of Washington is located, so I did the same.

There are now bonus answers based on cities that people might think were answers but missed the cut. If you have more bonus ideas, comment!

Fort Worth is a city within the Dallas metro area that just happens to be large, and in making these quizzes I'm including only the main city. I don't think it warrants a bonus.

The Twin Cities are ranked 135 in the source, neither is part of the other and they're kind of the same metro area. Certainly not worth a real answer but maybe a bonus?

What about the Ruhr Valley? I remember multiple quizzes on Sporcle include it as a metropolitan area.

New Delhi as a bonus? Or is it counted with Delhi?

New Delhi is actually inside Delhi so would count for Delhi's metro. New Delhi is pretty small anyway. And I didn't include the Twin Cities for the reason I didn't include Dallas. Although calling that area by the 2 names is much more common, I'm going for consistency in calling each metro by only one city.

Maybe Nizhny (or Nizhni) Novgorod, in Russia, as a bonus? It has a population of 1.3 million and is #319 in citymayors.com; does this make it bonus answer material?

got 7 bonuses but missed a lot of the real ones. I was so gutted that I got Nizhniy Novgorod and it was only a bonus! But - I have not seen Capetown written as two words before. Although your source may spell as such are you sure this is the accepted spelling?

When you type in Hong Kong, San Francisco gets answered as well. Maybe you accidentally put Hong Kong as a variation of the San Francisco answers??

Mexicans and Guatemalans refer to their capitals as simply Mexico and Guatemala - much like New York (City) residents almost always just say New York.
